Photographer's Note

The war memorial in Prelenfrey, a small village on the eastern edge of the Vercors mountain range. In the background, we can see the church clock.

The Vercors was long-standing stronghold for the French resistance during the second world war, and many memorials can be found in the range.

In the summer of 1944 the resistance rose in open revolt. They were finally defeated by the German army and several villages were destroyed leaving an indelible mark on local history.
