Photographer’s Note
This is a street in the centre of Mariager; a very old and very small city in Denmark.
Untill about 1430 it was just a village, but it got cityrights in 1536. Despite that rights, it only has only about 2.200 inhabitants.
The name Mariager is from middelage Danish "Mariæager", which means Virgins Maria's Field. It has that name because the village became bigger when a nonnery was founed in 1430.
The nonnery was devoted to Virgin Maria, and the village name Mariæager was meant to show that this city was the right place to devote Maria.
The city is situated by a fjord, and the fjord is called Mariagerfjord.
The building you see here to the right is Hotel Postgården. It's from the 18th century, but it is still used as a hotel-cafe.
I took this on a cold and snowy day. This is how the roads to Mariager looked like.
------------------------------------------------
About the photo:
I want to thank Lars/Tue, because he removed a small, but disturbing red sign on one of the brown logs of the building to the right.
I also want to thank Magnus/MvS for his tip about Picasa2. I used Picasa2 here to crop the photo on the bottum, give it a bit more light and shadows, and give it more saturation.
This is the first time I increased saturation (my own program doesn't have that function). I just increased that a little bit. Do you think that I used it too much? Or not enough?
PS Did you already discover the icicles on the roof?

Hi, You ! Very, very attractive and beautiful shot. Great. You succeeded well in my mind with increasing saturation - not too much, not too less. Exellent point of view. Street leads eye nicely more far away. What to say ? - my english is not good enough to explain, I just say, I really like this.

Hi Stef! I like this picture a lot and I think you added just the right amount of saturation. I tend to do that on my own pictures as well and it can work wonders. I guess it makes your yellow very yellow which I like. Sky a bit overexposed so it is not so distinct from the roof which is also white. But, I wouldn't know what to do about it. I can think of one thing. Select the sky with magic wand tool (photoshop), then diminish brightness or use the replace colour tool to make it more blue for instance. I can try it if you like. I like the depth of your image.

Stef,

The colours of the buildings here are very warming, despite the presence of the ice and snow! It's a wonderfully composed and well thought out shot with just the right amount of saturation. I also have fun with Picasa2! The whiteish sky seems to emphasise the wintry conditions, so is not a problem as far as I'm concerned. Thank you Stef, it's lovely.

Stef, I really enjoy this picture very much: Perhaps
it's because of the yellow patterns and the snow, but also because you took it so well. Some people could tell you, "I wish someone was walking at the golden spot," they may be right, but it is OK like this too.
Good shot .. Izzet

Here, the colors are intense in spite of snow, contrast is well made and the composition is excellent. It is beautiful work! Bravo! Claude

Erg goed werk.

A real Danish scene, this street with the beautiful houses. The darker yellow is a fine colour. The winter gives this shot a romantic mood and the few details as the flag and the sign-board are nice too. Mooi gedaan, jochie !!

when I think of this part of the world this is just what comes to my mind. good eye in seeing the depth you could capture with this POV. The orange/yellow colors really stand out and come across quite well in the pic. the snow helps seperate this from the average shot. well done, again!

Hi Stef,
It's a very nice view with a great perspective, I like the warm tones of the walls but I find them pretty unusual for a norther country, I'm more used to the red of swedish houses.
I think you're right saturating a bit as digital cameras often produce too pale colors.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Well, pushing it up to 60 pts ;-)
Fantastic work, Stef. I like it for its strong lines and - even more - for the spare use of colours. This is one of the ways to get some balance, silence and stability into a pic's message. I will follow you up the road into history.
Great job. Thank you for that.

Hi Steff.
I've just dicovered this shot in your album and I think it's very interesting. I like both the superb perspective given by the road and the colors of the buildings. The general architectureis unusual and interesting. The different oblique, vertical and diagonal lines give a good geometric aspect to the composition. Beautiful light even if the conditions weren't optimal! Nicely done !

Compositionally very good. I like the tones of yellow-colored facades.
Unfortunately, the roof seems a bit washed out and unpleasantly blends with the sky - use of a polariser would've helped here.

Well done Stef! A good phot with an informative note! I also like the fact you added a photo of the roads and note about the busses! It makes me wonder about this country where we see snow a few times a year and it brings the country to a stand still, roads closed, no people turning up to work!
Congrats to you on taking the photo but also to Lars who made it so you cant tell that there was ever a sign!

Stef,
Lovely snowscene. Good composition. I think saturation is just nice, the yellow of the houses contrasting with the snow. The sky is somewhat burnt out, maybe that is just the way it was that day?
Towns and villages can look so beautiful covered in slow, and you captured this one beautifully.

Very attractive photo. You have captured the essence of the setting very well. The added saturation doesn't seem to have caused any problems.
I like the way the eye is led down the street to the red house in the distance.

Hello Stef,
A pleasant and typical small Danish town street scenery!
The old architecture is very attractive and the fresh colour make the houses stand out even on a dull light winter day...
Well composed imnage, with the curving atreet as an excellent lead-in!
Greetings,
Pablo -
PS
I think a small saturation increase is wise under this light conditions...
