I think I´m not the only one,who miss a summer.Lately Serghei has posted beautiful summer photos from Greece and Poland. So I decided to approach this subject a little bit differently and show summer in B&W.I don´t know what you think, but maybe in this case it has more nostalgic feeling.
I hope you´ll like it!

As an aficionado of monochrome I have to say I like this very much. The simple blocks of tone and pared down composition work very well. It's not often such a bright colourful scene is rendered in b/w, but it works a treat and is all the better for being unusual.

a tantalising and beautifully simple Santorini monochrome wonder. It is perfectly rendered and makes full use of the elements and shadows, so that we do feel a little sad that next summer is such a long way away. Very arty and an irresistible presentation. Love the originality. It works for me!

Like Will, I am also a big fan of black and white, and I cannot think of a better image in which to present of that format than this. the dark strong shadow of the chair looks brilliant in contrast to the light reflections on the sea. The small parts of land sneaking into the image from left and right are like tendrils embracing the entire scene.
As you named this waiting for the next summner, the land there gives me the idea of winter enclosing in on the last of the sun, to remove the warmth and bring the rain. All the while, the chair sits solemn and patience, knowing the sun will rise again, and the tourists will return.
Evocative and beautiful presentation Krzysztof.
Thanks as always

In those winter days, we yield for next summer, right, Krzysztof, and with good memories.
Nice choice of B&W, the sea has a metallic texture under the bright sun, while the islands as silhouettes in great contrast.

The use of monochrome removes this shot from its pretty coastal ambience and concentrates on the spare details of the composition Krzysztof. The light becomes the supporting cast to the simple, bold composition and the empty lounger invites us to add the narrative. I'd like this one framed and on my wall. Warm regards rosemary

Very very successful sample of a monochrome image,
The subject and the background is well composed.
The shadows added extra ambiance.
Very well done!

Simple composition but very effective
Romano46 (18472) 2013-12-10 9:51
una bellissima luce per un bianco e nero di grande efficacia.
La composizione è perfetta e lo stesso soggetto si prestava ottimamente per questa elaborazione.
Bene hai fatto a farla alla luce dello straordinario risultato.
Ciao e buona serata

I absolutely love this image and think it has the character of a classic for its simple and elegant composition and for its excellent monochrome treatment that has managed to maintain the particular beauty of this place, defined mainly by lines, space light and shadows. As I live on an island and very often point my camera towards the sea (and, mainly, due to having received much advice on TE and made a habit of checking such things:) I noticed that the horizon is tilting a little and this is the only remark I have to make other than sincere praise. I also love the discreet but intriguing textures on the sea and the terrace. You have found your own special way to handle the strong greek light, showing its splendour in its reflections. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Well, this is a superb artistic image from the sea side. Indeed, I miss the summer days, I really hate winter and the cold..
Have a good night.

Very nice b&w entry with great graphical effect.

The picture gives me a nostalgic feeling. Probably because I'm one of those people who miss the summer.
Very attractively composed with the sun bed positioned into the direction of the passage route between both smaller islands (or perhaps peninsulas). Also very well balanced.
I like the long shadow that fills the foreground.
Best regards, Paul

Longing for the clear skies and warm temperatures are you my friend? :) This is great Krzysztof, the idea to convert this to a monochrome format puts a twist on the much familiar blue & white scheme that we, or I do anyway, immediately associate with Greece...and in particular the islands.
The high contrast and contre jour light is suited well for a scene like this, and I'd say you worked it to perfection in evoking the sentiment. It may be void of the traditional warm tones and colors, but by no means does it lose the atmosphere and impact visual of relaxation and the "good life."
My two favorite things about this are the elongated shadow from the lounge chair...smart positioning and composition by the way...and the crisp and clear ripples on the waters surface. Ahhhhh, tranquility! What else is there to say but 'awesome!'
My warmest wishes,
nikkitta (17066) 2013-12-10 18:26
Waiting and inviting capture where light, and shadows are the main protagonist
Presenting a W/B capture makes it a bit sad or nostalgic as you said
Anyway Summer will return and meanwhile you can enjoy snow
serp2000 (42554) 2013-12-10 20:21
We have the month's norm of the snow for the last 3 days. I am fine. But what can I say about the season? I miss the summer again )))
Good tribute, my friend! Perfect graphic, good choice of b&w solution.
have a nice day!

another interesting composition by you. Love the presentation in black and white. Great graphical impact. The frame has a very little tilt at left, but it doesn't hamper the beauty of your composition. Enjoyed it as ever. Tfs.

You play excellent with light and shade.
I am not a big fan of black and white but this is a choice of the photographer.
One advice, try in future your horizon to make horizontal.
Composition and presentation make these picture attractive.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

Poor boy, come and visit us in Aus and we'll show you some warm weather :) But I can understand why you would be missing the sun and hope that the winter is not too bitter. This is really interesting choosing B&W. Like you, I'm a big fan of B&W and this is really wonderful. When I first saw it in thumbnail, I thought " what the hell is K doing choosing B&W for a Greek Island?" But on enlarging the photo, I understand your thinking and love it. Particularly the effect made by the sunbed and it's shadow and the sea that looks like wet cement. There is one thing - a small thing - to whinge about and that it your horizon. Obviously you couldn't correct the image in Photoshop by tilting it, but are you aware of how to correct it manually? I'll do a WS to show you, if you don't mind.
Anyway, top marks here. It's a photo where you've thought outside the box and I adore it.
abmdsudi (48812) 2013-12-11 21:34
What a brilliant composition taken from great point of view and bags of atmosphere. You have cracked this game of lights and shadows in mono with minimal subjects in the foreground adding a great dimension and depth to your work and credit to superb handling of exposure control. The fg leads to the smooth subtle water sheen as strong focal as the eyes are forced to hover back and forth smoothly. This is very artistic shot consists of basic elements that fit together well and thks to your keen observation by turning it into a great photo work, Congrats
seb1lopez (187) 2013-12-11 23:04
U did well: the nostalgic effect is not only due to this nice soft b and w , but also to the emptiness of the place... added to the great light on the sea and the long shadow on the chair, looking at the sea, the pic is great! ...just turn it lill to the right for more horizontality...
CLODO (33032) 2013-12-12 0:32
A perfect advertissement for this country, well enhanced by the B&W treatment. You managed well to get a perfect POV to include the shadow of the chair, leading our view on the silvery seascape. Maybe the horizon is a little bit tilted.

Cricri (113639) 2013-12-12 10:31
danos (92628) 2013-12-12 10:53
nice the B/W scenery with the glimps of the sunset to makes the image so inviting and unique.I like the presentation of the empty chair on the terrace as looks like someone to sit,to see and admire the beauty of the moment.
eldancer1 (33927) 2013-12-12 14:26
Simple but effective composition especially in B&W. Shooting against the sun is difficult but you did a wonderful job. Well done, tfs.
trevormoffiet (3112) 2013-12-13 2:45
Great to see a B&W image getting a strong response. The simplicity of the image is what drew me in.
Great shot and good conversion to B&W.
adramad (42021) 2013-12-13 4:47
Wonderful picture of this island, which brings me nice memories.
This fantastic composition in B & W, which gives a lot of strength, the effect of light and shade, very present in this composition.
A bright image with optimum clarity.
Good job. I love it.
Enjoy a good weekend.
mcmtanyel (18123) 2013-12-13 19:22
This is a lovely B&W photo. The composition is well thought out. The chair is in perfect position. My only comment is that it needs a 1.4-degree CW rotation to make the horizon horizontal.
Sonata11 (33717) 2013-12-13 20:51
Witaj Krzysztof, fantastycznie wykonane zdjecie. Co ciekaqwe ze bardzo mi sie podoba w czarno bialym kolorze. Widok na morze oraz wispy robia wrazenie. Podoba mi sie tez pusty lezak ktory oczekuje na turyste. Fantastyczne zdjecie. Moje gratulacje.

not sure if you intended to show this photo on the angle and tilt?
but whatever the case may be i know i enjoy the scene you've captured.
its nice to see the shade, the monochrome in Greece too, its as if i'm sitting here looking at the ocean as if i'm sitting in with my sunglasses on :)
nice to see the rippling in the water and the scratch marks on the ground.

hi krzysztof. missing the summer? no way, i still have some cold to see :) but yes, i'd still love to lie there with a huge glass of strong "long island" cocktail, enjoying the sunset. gorgeous use of strong counterlight and underexposure. b&w suits perfectly.

Looking at this photo makes me wanna laze-off on this seat, grab a book about spiritual awakening and do some meditation afterwards. You've got a nice presentation here in B&W of traditionally presented "sunny" pictures of summer. Beautifully done as it evoked a feeling of serenity.
I was on the beach four days ago, and I must say that I can feel the summer heat in a period we're supposed to feel some cold Christmas breeze. Merry Christmas to you and enjoy the holidays!
