I've taken this photo in restaurant in Swiss town of Baden during pre-Advent season by end of November.
Advent is a season observed in many Western Cristian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas.
The word Advent is from the Latin adventus for "coming" and is associated with the four weeks of preparation for Christmas.
Advent always contains last four Sundays before December 24, advent 2013 begins on this Sunday, December 1 and ends on Tuesday, December 24.
During first Advent Sunday only one candle is lit, during second Advent Sunday-two candles, third Advent Sunday three candles and the last, fourth Advent Sunday, four candles are lit.
This photo with only one candle is dedicated to first Advent Sunday, the 1st December 2013.

A very clear image of the candle, placed in a glass cup, and the flame is in great contrast to its dark surrounding, Miro.
Red color well rendered as well.
Have a nice weekend, and a nice holidays month.

Bonjour, cher Miro,
L'amour, c'est l'âme qui ne meurt pas, qui va croissant, montant comme la flamme.
Bonnes fêtes de l'avent.

Beautiful still life composition of the candle in the total dark background. I like the detailing on the flame and the glass. This combined with your informative note is priceless. Thanks for sharing.

You're capturing well this candle by a good composition, a good focus and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the red candle and fire on the glass. It seems to be a unique custom of Western Cristianity which the advent last four Sundays before December 24. It's good contrast with black background. So, the black draws well the red candle.

This is beautiful, one of those images that we see portrayed to us as a perfect build to Christmas, that appears on Christmas cards and TV productions, but how cool that this is just an everyday scene that you shot and shared here. The flame is beautiful in how calm it is, the red color of the candle very appealing and presented great in the glass.
And your composition is really great too.
May you be the first to whom I say this year, Happy Christmas!
All the best

A stunning picture, despite the simplicity of the subject image has great charm, because I love the luminosity that gives flame and wax that offers transparency, all highlights of wonder about in black background.
Good brightness and sharpness.
Enjoy a good evening.

nice the view as the presentation of the red caddle with the light to be captured perfect.
I like its good placement in the frame as its mystic environment that created.

this simple composition is very well balanced and effective, I like how you have adjusted it to the shapes contained in the frame. The candle and the flame are very well defined against the dark and blurry backdrop, the warmth of the red colour and of the flame is pleasant and evocative. We may fill the the rest of the space with thoughts and wishes of our own. Congratulations and thank you! Thank you very much also for your kind words and wishes!
All the best, have a lovely Advent,

The candle is well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the candle. I like the effect of the flame of the candle on the colors. Your note is giving a lot of information. Have a nice day.

Very nice, this has always been one of my nemeses...the dreaded low light setting. Loving this concept too, plain and simple, but speaking very well to the peacefulness of the soft flicker and light from a singular candle.
You've captured the essence of the subject here, and by keeping it straight forward and minimal I believe you've conveyed precisely what you were wanting to in conjunction with your notes. I really like the placement withing the frame as well, off center, but not awkwardly out of place...looks and feels just right! :)

I like this simple but very effective composition. The color red on (almost) black background looks very noble.

A simple subject which takes all it's meaning by your note. I appreciate the total darkness of the background and the subject being off centered.

A very seasonal image and a lovely warm composition. Gorgeous glow around the candle flames and the light shining through, super sharp, stands out well from the dark bg. I like this very much for its warmth and calmness, this indeed is a wonderfully enlightening foreword supported by this beautiful picture. Congrats

nicely composed image with the candle placed on the right and the flame playing the role of lead-in. The light is very pleasant; and the black background is very cleverly chosen. My compliments!

The light of a simple candle burning in a dark room fills the mind with thoughts of beauty and mystery. Beautiful and peaceful image, perfect to go with Christmas coming. Very well framed, there's no more detail than necessary. The lack of any distracting elements creates an intimate mood with just the candle against the dark. Well done.
