This is a photo of the temple of the holy cross near the village Krania Aspropotamou in Greece. This temple is believed to have been built around 1770 AD, although there are no written records. The first written records date from 1792 when it was operating as part of a monastery, until 1924. It was partially burned by the Germans during the German occupation in 1943 as counter measures for the execution of 80 German prisoners by the Greek opposition. It was later renovated and it operated twice a year as a church, but was otherwise unused. Recently it started operating as part of a women's monastery.
The following description (and a another photo) has been copied from http://www.gometeora.com/en/routes/item/61-doliana
"The Temple of the Cross is characterized by the peculiar architecture. It consists of a domed and polykoncho nave and the narthex demolished today. The nave has a basilica plan with three semicircular arches on the east side and three arches, each long side of which is sized dance floor. The temple is covered with slate roof, above which rise 12 domes and trouliskoi built. Inside the sanctuary is shaped synthronon and episcopal throne."
The temple is in the middle of a thick forest, and it can be photographed whole only from one location. I wanted to convey this proximity to the forest, that is why I chose this composition. The photograph was taken with a zoom lens from within the surrounding forest.

Good shot with the available light. Informative note to go with it. I like the temple emerging out of the woods. TFS.
