Hello Claude - I remember the Maigret stories from the television and I think this doppelganger is priceless! Well spotted and perfectly typecast right down to the pipe and notebook. Of course the shot has to be in B&W! Warm regards Rosemary

Maigret was popular on British screens also, played in the '90s by Sir Michael Gambon, but before that for 52 episodes in the '60's by Rupert Davies. His portrayal won two of the highest accolades: his versions were dubbed into French and played on French TV; and Simenon himself presented Davies with a novel inscribed to his "perfect Maigret".
And so to your photograph. Good choice of monochrome and I like the profile shot. I can see the likeness, but where is Lucas?
PS I've put the wheels in motion regarding your suggestion of a meeting. Watch this space!

Joli clin d'oeil à Mr Maigret !

Ha! Ha! Claude, this is definitely Maigret!
The pipe, the hat, the notebook ... who else could it possibly be!!
You have such an eye for spotting the unusual in everyday settings. The best part is, this detective has no idea that he has been detected!!
Have a lovely day,

Ah, yes, I well remember Maigret (and his accomplice, Lucas)! I remember watching him on television years ago, lighting his pipe by striking a match on the wall of an alleyway. He drove, if I remember correctly, a Citroen Light Fifteen Traction Avant car too. Ah, memories!
And this could be him reincarnated although this man looks a lot less grumpy and more content with life than Maigret. A very fine capture of this elderly gentleman sitting reading while quietly puffing his pipe. You have caught him in fine sharp focus against a nicely out of focus background and with lovely tones and contrasts. This picture works extremely well in black and white too - just like in the television series!

a wonderful study this. An image typical of your style and eye for something different. You never disappoint and this is compelling and a perfect representation of the famous detective. Magic!
Have a good weekend - B.
