Two of the daughters, of our host family, the eldest is a twin. They stayed in the corner of the room and hardly dared to look at us at first. The wood-fire in the center of the room smelt wonderfully sweet I remember.

hello Elaine, Happy to see you. Excellent portrait of these two Pa O women. The one in the tradition red scarf seems pensive, the other is interested with a visitor. This trekking with the visits in the houses of Pa o people must have been wonderful experience. fantastic light management, superb double portrait.

Hi Elaine. The dark background and the highlights on skin and material remind me of the Renaissance paintings as far as style goes- the subjects are of course from another world. Lovely duo, dramatic touches of colour. Regards. Klaudio.

Your note says a lot about the way Pa-O people behave in presence of foreigners and the rules and discipline that seems to come with it.
I like the soft light that brushes your subjects, revealing their face softly, and surprisingly, showing all the details even against dark coloured clothes.
A beautiful photographic document, a unique travel memory.

hi elaine. such a wonderful photo, almost a painting. i am speechless. the composition, use of light and colors, positions and gestures of hands, the doubtful and curious gaze... all are magnificent and creating a beautiful, unique atmosphere. i am mostly struck by the red scarf, which reminds me the "portrait of a man in turban" by jan van eyck. compliments.

The light and colours are fantastic. The technique reminds me of a Rembrandt painting. The red headcloth of the woman to the left, the way she is holding her hands, and the face of her younger sister looking at you are stunning.

Welcome back, A harmonious, well crop of double portraits and here's the dimness serves well to make the very gentle highlights stand out - facial features especially and lovely play of subtle of shade & light. You have exploited the condition really well of a very intimate moment together, the expression are indeed priceless with catchy red to click our sense. A gentle and soothing shot, very well taken. My congrats. tfs

Ciao e e buona serata

Great light and beautifully captured. The RAW really helped in this to enhance the colours.

The natural diffused light just brings enough to create a great atmosphere for this expressive double portrait. I like the splashes of colour here and there accentuating these girls. Nice tight framing too.

namaste, it is a masterpiece. I can assume it as a painting and in that pattern it would be successfull too... Excellent control over light. Great natural colours. Another superb shot. Tfs.

To be honoust, this could be very well be Nepal it has all the ingrediënt for it..
You have created a wonderful atmosphere here, the half dark roomm and the smoke of the burning wood fire,I can almost smell it!
The red head scarf is the only breaking point in this painting.
The woman left is a true beauty.

Good to see such a beautiful portrait of the Pa-O! I find them really interesting. I like the way you managed the difficult light here and the expression of the two girls, specially the one on the left that seems so lost in her thoughts. Her face and the way she keeps her hands are perfectly captured!

Hey Elaine, been browsing your gallery, your bangladesh photos are avery honest account, realistic, i need to take a a more detailed view later, but can't get past this one without acknowledging how good this photo is. the light phufffffff...is superb it a great double portrait, the sidelight is so soft and delicate, creates such a 3d effect around the faces. you could have been a step backwards, a little space at the bottom could have been perfect. the indifferent nd the inquiring face create a unique poise for portrait.
