The typical white head and tail of the American Bald Eagle occurs when the eagle is seven years of age. Until then, they are drab. They still are magnificent fliers with huge wingspans. We're glad to see them all along the coastline of SE Alaska each summer. This year, only one bird fledged from a nearby nest.

Fine fledgling Bald Eagle view, up close, surrounded by green pine needles.
Driving home yesterday from SoCal, I spotted a mature Bald Eagle soaring near Pyramid Lake. Which is rare, or at least for me in this area.
