Photographer's Note

On the road from Sesriem to Sossusvlei in the southwest of Namibia one crosses the highest sand dunes in Africa and possibly the entire world...some reaching a height of 300 m! Temperatures here in late winter hover around 40°C in the shade. Problem is...there is not much shade for miles. Route 37 at Sesriem opens at 07h30. From there it's a straight shot of about 60 km to the end of the road at Sossusvlei. From there on a few more kilometers one has to take a 4 X 4 with a government driver. Cost: 1 euro (10 Namibian dollars).
