°Road to nowhere. Photo

Photographer’s Note

Many came and many go as there was nothing else to see on Munnar’s Top Station then cloudy mist, even this road disappeared to nowhere.

Normally on a sunny day you can see the whole valley of Tamil Nadu from this point. But the atmosphere on a warm cloudy day is also a must to see.

As poor India can be it has also an amazing nature-wealth, so enjoy this poetic view.

wow ! één der mooiste foto's die ik ooit zag, Henk. Mistig en toch zo'n klare foto. Zou een prachtige prent zijn bij bevoorbeeld het begin van een historische film. Ik heb deze alvast als bureau-achtergrond op mijn scherm gezet voor een tijdje.

It is quite often my dillema what to shot on a foggy day. The obvious answer - use the mist - is very difficult to materialise in a good photo. You managed excellent to use the fog as an vital element of the photo. I believe that the climate of the country supports the green looking so fresh. I will add it to my "catch the mist theme". best regards

Cette route de nulle part m'encourage à poursuivre mon chemin vers l'inconnu. Le cadrage est parfait; je note une parfaite maîtrise de l'exposition car la brume a tendance à orienter la cellule vers la sous-exposition.

Clarity Henk. The detail is pretty rich and the mist, adds the mysterious attractiveness to this scene. There are road to nowhere, which is not necessarily dark and ominous. SOme of them like this scene, is pretty interesting and rather adventurous in understanding it.

Henk, this could be the perfect photo made from nothing. The road leads the eye into the picture well and is excellently framed by the trees and bank. The mist creates a wonderfully gentle light and smooth texture. Maybe the picture just needs someone or something to add a point of focus - but maybe it's just best left to our imagination.

This picture is a true art and true art creates true emotions.
Picture with message to consider .
This frame can be compared with "frame of our road of life". It happens that we sometimes choose such side road where there are no regulations. Road which seems to be attractive, fascinating, but also can be a surprising, unexpected and painful experience. Road which leads to nowhere.
Question is: what for?
We are humans. We commit mistakes and let's do them still. Yes! Let's learn also and let's take out conclusions. We are only human beings.

Hi! Henk,
The framing of the eucalyptus in this misty world is wonderful. The contrast between the foreground and background gives great depth. Although the air was probably warm here, the mist would more than likely feel cool, so I did an adjustment in a Workshop to portray that coolness, by lifting more yellow from that zone and making the mist and track more blue/neutral.
The funneled light from the right is like a scene from a holy book and becomes the focus point, so I tried to enhance that area with a dodge, in order to add more contrast to a pastel range of shades. This was to give an apparent increase in contrast. The yellow bag spurred me in the first place to take the WS road and relive this encounter virtually.
Your work is very special and I will enjoy taking a stroll through more of your digital moments. TFS.

It reminds me the cool promenade in Sintra heading down the village from the castle . The atmosphere is almost surrealistic , impregnated with that halo of mysticism in which you wonder if those trees are product of onirism , imagination Caspar Friedrich drawing or just a magic place that is actually the real answer . I really like the picture of this road! The colors are looking annatural, like in a ferry-tale!
I've been in Munnar in February 2002, there I had allways good weather with no clouds, so the atmosphere was completely different.

I can't leave your page and not to thank you by this wonderful shot. It's really amazing. It's easy to see why this photo is marked as a favorite for so many people. The fog adds mystery to this fairytale landscape, we almost expect to see a fairy come around the bend! I really like how you framed this, how the road is straight in the foreground, and then begins to curve back and forth. The way that the right side goes up a hill, and the left side goes down it is great.

Excuse me, but I do not understand all these eulogistic comments, for a so banal picture! It is enough to be put at the medium of the road and to make click! Nothing very complicated.
Then: " Fantastic - wonderful - amazing - excellent - lovely - fabulous - splendid - superb - great - magic - perfect " etc ...It is exaggerated !
It is not your fault if all these comments arrive, and in your gallery, much of other photographs are of great class.

wandering in TE, i ran into this one and just wanted to say hello to an old friend...

man, it is ironically funny to see that, one of those overrated TE miracles belongs to you. yeah, the place should have been amazing in real life, breathing that humidity, smelling that greenery, walking on that road to nowhere... wow...

but, this photo of that place is boring. no less boring than any other empty foggy forest photos on the net (which i also had that unfortunate chance to share a very bad (and even more boring) version on our fantastic TE). yet... who am i to contradict to all those 200 other members who love it enormously and who am i to fully oppose to all those 85 favouriters...

anyway, i'd be extremely pleased if you grant me the chance to express my ideas...nothing personal, you know...

I happily join the chorus of viewers who find themselves mesmerized by this astonishing photograph. I came by this image with a mix of sadness and joy. My good friend Stephen Branley cited you among his friends (on his Intro page), when he announced his withdrawal from participation at the site. But with discerning taste he had obviously discovered some of your great gems, and I am grateful to him for identifying your gallery (I will definitely select it among my favorites). Stephen had benefitted from the collaboration with you and I can see why. In a photograph that resembles a stage setting the composition is surpassing. The all-pervasive mist leaves areas with sharp resolution, the subdued soft color creates a genuine mystique.

An almost magical, dreamlike setting. This angle (by standing right in the middle of the road) almost draws your eye into the picture. The composition is fantastic; my particular favorite is the fact that the rocks on the right and the big branch in the upper part of the picture create somewhat of a natural frame.
