Near the Mausoleum of Mohamed V there is actually a lone-standing minaret of a never finished Mosque that was intended to be the greatest one of the world.
Here you can see the lot of bases with a lot of people in our days to be a pleasant stroll to the natives.
Rabat literally "Fortified Place" French Ville de Rabat Spanish Ciudad de Rabat), is the capital and third largest city of the Kingdom of Morocco with a population of approximately 650,000 (2010). It is also the capital of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region.
The city is located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the river Bou Regreg. On the facing shore of the river lies Salé, the city's main commuter town. Together with Temara the cities account for a combined metropolitan population of 1.8 million. Silting problems have diminished the Rabat's role as a port; however, Rabat and Salé still maintain important textile, food processing and construction industries. In addition, tourism and the presence of all foreign embassies in Morocco serve to make Rabat one of the most important cities in the country.
Rabat is accessible by train through the ONCF system and by plane through the nearby Rabat-Salé Airport.

Bonjour, cher Danos,
tedesse (25133) 2013-01-21 23:53
Good point of view and beautiful light, nice colours. Interesting place, good note describing the place.
jmdias (58956) 2013-01-22 0:50
a marvelous view of this famous and classical pov from rabat. I visited this place while sick but happy because I was feeling better after a terrible disease.
nice use of the columns and the tower here.
ikeharel (62959) 2013-01-22 1:06
This is most impressive pillar-bases no finished that I ever saw, Danos.
By a swift calculation made, there must be some 240 culumn on the ground, as the picture shows.
Great clear image, natural colors and fine daylight collected. People/tourists there go to see the notable tower, gave a vibrant tone to the whole.
Graal (100112) 2013-01-22 2:12

jacquest (18871) 2013-01-22 3:41
I like the rows of colums leading the eye to the horizon and the minaret. The light gives warm colors and the people milling around add life.
serp2000 (42090) 2013-01-22 3:59
Another interesting report from Morocco. Clever PoV, good perspective. It reminds me the columns in Athens.
I need some rest after my trips in 2012. Well, I have got the archive folders too.
Best wishes from snowy town,

pierrefonds (60396) 2013-01-22 4:35
The wideness of the square is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the minaret and of the columns. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
mkamionka (32499) 2013-01-22 4:57
very attractive design of the minaret, the columns make interesting unusual foreground. I heard recently from a colleague from Algeria that they attempt now to design the largest mosque in the world, I cross my fingers for them to succeed. You have captured it with a great light which provides nice long shadows here.
Very well done,
dkmurphys (52745) 2013-01-22 5:21
Spectacular place. I like the POV and the contrasts of that sunny day. Well seen!
josepmarin (57947) 2013-01-22 7:25
the never finished mosque with the columns that do not support any building, and the minaret that is outlined on the blue sky, is a very interesting topic for your composition.
People adds many vitality to the scene, and the light is playing with the shades very effectively.
A beautiful work, my friend.
ourania (36428) 2013-01-22 9:13

Very nice capture of this religious site with good lighting and dof with sharp details. Nice to have the people for scale. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
Romano46 (18472) 2013-01-22 10:24
jlbrthnn (76037) 2013-01-22 11:18
This is a photo and an interesting story. The view is spectacular. The light and colors, sharpness and depth are excellent. Bravo.

Hello, interesting history to this striking scene. Those columns are huge and dwarf the people.Great light and colors.Friendly regards,Wolf.
kato (11630) 2013-01-22 13:44
You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see this big/brown Mosque with the rectangular form and a lot of stone pillars standing on wide sqaure in front of Mosque. This spectacle seems to the world of a different dimension for me. And, the long shadow projected to the sqaure draws out a good effect in this image.
PaulVDV (24423) 2013-01-22 17:13
The red minaret and the remains of the many columns aren't only an important tourist site in Rabat but also a very fascinating place.
With this picture you show us well the grandeur of the project that had to become the world's largest mosque and minaret.
A gorgeous light and beautiful long shadows.
Best regards, Paul
abmdsudi (46924) 2013-01-23 6:58
Impressive compo and pov the way you placed the significant subject within the frame with lots of other interesst. Lighting so nicely balanced, well detailed in excellent colors and the shadows adds depth and sense of space. Well done
clic (16074) 2013-01-23 7:58
Geia sou Danos
I presume those many posts were intended to support a second-storey flooring, given the height.
They could be used as a practice field for motorcycle slalom!
Anyway, those "stone soldiers" standing in close formation seem to be waiting for a fall out order on behalf of minaret and they compose with the tall abandoned building a well-balanced picture.
bayno (18344) 2013-01-23 9:58
a scene and atmosphere very mistyc, you frame the scene so good, i like also the light and the long shadows...

Hello dear Danos,
Very nice capture from Marocco, again with perfect light and perfect layout.
TFS and best regards
adramad (40662) 2013-01-23 14:49
Impressive and magnificent golf columns, that mosque remains unfinished, is a fantastic POV with the succession of the same and the beautiful tower in the background, with their beautiful designs on the brick.
Very good management of the light and optimum clarity and natural color.
Have a nice day.
fabianoleite (9783) 2013-01-23 17:31
Very nice view, with the columns forming great patterns in a well formed composition. Good work, congratulations!
raszid62 (18515) 2013-01-24 0:50
Noel_Byrne (27430) 2013-01-24 5:19
This is a really fine capture of a very unique place, its great to see that the vast square with all those ruined columns is such an integral part of daily life, and the people walking among them barely seem to notice the vast history all around. Brillainy POV to show off the tower in the distance too.
Thansk for sharing!
Afsanehbagheri (3228) 2013-01-24 9:43
Hello my friend
Excellent composition with good light and beautiful clarity
Angshu (56588) 2013-01-24 23:33
The short pillars create a great perspective & graphic effect, leading our eyes to the minaret. The warm cold colour tones with the sky contrast well. Good light creating shadows & the people offer scale. Good work!
jhm (144294) 2013-01-25 5:03
The wideness of the square is giving depth with these a lot big columns, the people give the hight for the scale.
A lovely panoramic view about these area.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
Excellent composition, nice captured.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,
nikkitta (16790) 2013-01-25 12:29
Great POV to show the most of the never finished mosque, it seems a bit like the columns of the Palais Royal a Paris (perspective)
Great sharpness and warm and true colors
Congrats and TFS
Have a good week end
Note Rabat is also accessible by road
Janusz1974 (2824) 2013-01-25 14:38

Ya great typical Islamic image indeed. Nice panfocus framework is set. Sharp and clear image as usual.
Thanks a lot and have a good weekend!
wolf38 (31284) 2013-01-26 8:50
Hello Danos. The photo has a great effect. The many small pillars and the massive tower are a successful contrast. More instructive text. Overall, a good contribution to TE.
adores (41028) 2013-01-27 16:16
I've been here a few years ago:)! The place is really impressive and your pov is excellent to show it, with the minaret, the columns and the locals passing. The light is also very good!

shevchenko (18892) 2013-01-30 18:00
Seem there is architectures in different style here, good contrast in between the round columns to the square tower, good pov to frame it all, lovely old architectures under soft sunlight, distinct photo, good shoot.

The people in FG shows how gigantic the minaret is! Good compo with well placed tower and interesting graphics of the repeating pillars.
mirosu (15302) 2013-02-01 18:56
You have chosen a perfevt viewpint. Excellent composition with the toll mausoleum in BG.
I like that you captured people aroun, their placement gives the viewer a very good idea about the size of this palce.

Robert1969 (7160) 2013-02-05 8:52
A picture with a lots of diagonal lines, not only
from the pillars, but also from the shadows and
both creates a nice depth. The cut up and/or
below makes the picture extra wide and the
picture has a very good composition and light
elenimavrandoni (14209) 2013-02-06 13:03
kasianowak (7565) 2013-02-06 13:10
What a fascinating place!
I like the warm light and long shadows in this photo which gives three dimensional feel. Great composition.
macjake (61496) 2013-02-06 20:29
this photo is super photo! a super post for TE from a cultural aspect.
amazing to think this was suppose to be a Mosque, but it wasn't completed, and they have left the bases.
I have never seen this before, and its surprising that it isn't more prominent on TE.
maloutim (9639) 2013-02-11 0:41
Lovely POV of this "never ending", "never ended" mosque. It's like a play on words for such a large edifice that never ends and that was never completed after the death of the sultan Yacoub el-Mansour in the 12th century, I believe, and then was damaged by an earthquake in the 18th century.
The unfinished minaret, the Hassan Tower overlooks this column forest with all its majesty.
Are you going to show us the mausoleum in one of your next posts too ?
Thanks for sharing these interesting marks of Moroccan history and culture.
gus72 (3719) 2013-02-14 19:44
Hi Danos !!
if it was not for your notes we would never know what it is !!!
Your POV was very well selected and the inclusion of people makes us believe that this site is not in ruins...... just part of the city with people crossing it in all directions.
Very nice image..... well done
Cheers from Moss Vale
Didi (59066) 2013-02-20 8:43
Very strange, they did not finished the mosque.
The style is different than in Egypt
Very good point of view under warm lights
UlfE (14641) 2013-02-22 11:40
A really fine composition with the minaret perfectly positioned and really great diagonal lines. Also beautiful colours and lighting. TFS and have a nice wekend!

Impressive POV and fantastic composition.
Great work Danos.
fabbs99 (16817) 2013-03-05 10:56
Amazing shot with the reflection.Nice image, sharp with good details, well saturated colors and nice composition. Well done.
startacked (1341) 2013-04-01 13:40
Good photo/ note combo. I wonder why the poles have different heights. Here in my hometown is the biggest Mosque of the country. They had started the build but than they ran out of money. It was unfinished for years, it was an ugly building site. Than people in that surrounding complained and then they told the people that were in charge of the build: complete it or we will demolish it. Money was found, it it finished now. They should finish this one too! :)
mcmtanyel (16667) 2013-05-20 15:53
Your pictures of this area are much nicer than mine. It was rainy when we were there and there was construction around the tower. That is why I have not uploaded any from here.
I like your POV, your composition, light and color management. I love the patterns the columns make.
ahmet54 (3113) 2014-06-29 9:16
it seems that moroccan rulers like to build giant mosques. Good composition. I like the diagonal lines created by the columns.
