Photographer’s Note
This picture was taken in Valletta from my hotel window facing the Grand Harbour. To me, a foreigner in Malta, I found it impressive that they would have such big ships enter the harbour as the cities seen in the background have no protection should the ship veer off...
In the background you can also see a red roof on many of the churches. I am not sure where that custom comes from though.
In the foreground you can see the TV antennas. I could have cropped them out but to me they are symbolic of Malta as there are so many visible all around. A tour guide I had explained that several years ago, they only had one local channel, so to get other channels, they would have high antennas above the surrounding buildings to catch Italian television. Today, it is no longer the case as there are more channels available locally, but the antennas remain...
