This is Mill Cottage in the delightful and quaint little East Ayrshire village of Sorn which I visited with a friend a couple of days ago. To the left of the house you can just see part of the old meal mill which was water driven from the River Ayr on whose bank it sits. The mill was closed around 1927 and converted to use as a church hall in which capacity it still functions today.
You can read about the mill and also see a picture from about this viewpoint here.
For those who like maps, you can get a street view of here if you look at this map and drag the little yellow man down to the red cross and pan around.

classico Cottage, con tanto di fumo dal camino, uno spettacolo.
Mi piacciono questi luoghi e l'aria che ci si respira.
Bella la luce e ottima la nitidezza.

this is a great scene from rural england. the colour are bright and vibrant in the sunlight which coming through the trees creating lovely areas of light and shade on the gable wall of the cottage. the stone work is superb. the red painted window frames stand out very nicely. great detail and sharpness. my only negative would be the cropping off of the chimney tops, but its a minor point in a wonderful picture.

John, you've done a nice job capturing the rustic quality of the building here. Good lighting on the stonework, and while there are little hints of modernity here and there, they're easily overlooked. The reds in here stand out particularly well.

Hi John. A pleasant scene, one for which i am sure there must be suitable poem from the Romantics. The smoke from the chimney adds to the charm and creates a nostalgic mood for the days of yore when one walked more than rode and one knew one's neighbours (possibly more than necessary.) lovely natural light and colours. Regards. Klaudio.

Great shot of this cottage, taken from a good angle.
The sunlight makes its architecture and its rural aspect even more fascinating. Wonderful reddish tones and beautiful textures of the walls. The smoke coming out of the chimney stands out well against the background of the darker trees.
Best regards, Paul

Once more. is this chocolate box type of photo? Anyway, I love this. Delightful cottage. Beautiful stone walls, red frames in the wiindows look very attractive, Something creeping on the walls, probably ivy (the walls of my house are covered even more), and chimneys on the side walls, our are rather in the middle of the roofs. Have a beautiful Sunday.

une superbe photo de ce petit cottage où il doit faire bon vivre près d'une cheminée
la couleur de la pierre est magnifique et avec les fenêtres, l'ensemble est typique de cette région

The light is just amazing as it dapples the ancient walls of this most attractive cottage. There is a wonderful timelessnes to the scene.
There is strength in composition from the f/g triangle to the line between the cottage and the mill. The converging lines give a fine lead and there are excellent details to absorb in the fine, sharp presentation.
Have a lovely Sunday,

When I saw the picture I noticed the smoke from the chimney, after I read the date and wondered what they will do with the fire of July? mah maybe bake the bread. The house is really lovely and you are able to frame it perfectly and with a good light, the quality is not being discussed...
have a good sunday...

A very beautiful old house. I like the strong and saturated colours here. Your note and links are also very interesting. I always enjoy your links with that yellow man!

This photo would not have been half as good if there was no smoke!
Lovely place and a lovely photograph of it.

Hello John - A delightful shot taken under lovely light which has cast pretty dappled shadows across the end wall. I love the situation of this cottage, backed by a swathe of greenery and a garden protected by a wooden, picket fence it looks idyllic and well bedded into the landscape. I see the fire has been lit and I can smell freshly baked fruit cake and tea! Lovely, well managed shot with very attractive colour, the orange window frames adds the perfect little splash of colour which echoes with the chimney and orangey hue of the stonework. Warm wishes for the week ahead. Rosemary

the Mill Cottage looks lovely in this warm light. Your point of view is excellently chosen to show the details of its location, architecture and superb masonry. The stones that make its walls look perfectly integrated and the cottage so solid and inviting. I like very much both the perspective along the road and that of the cottage's facade. Sharpness, lighting and capture of beautiful characteristic colours are all superb. I love the fresh and beautiful backdrop, the greenery creeping on the facade and the greatly captured soft shadow on its side. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Ciao caro Giovanni
Ahh so the little yellow man has even seen Sorn Mill?! Wow, the place looks pretty much off the beaten track. It's a very quaint place and looks to be so carefully maintained and immaculate. Again the light was not doing you any favours here, but you still delivered a high quality photo with plenty of impact, and one that certainly draws the viewer in. Nice work, thanks for sharing, have a lovely day.
