Bread = Piine (Paine)

Between the two world wars, Romania was internationally recognized as being the granary of Europe. Today, the country finds itself in the delicate situation of not being able to produce enough to cover its own consumption, in the aftermath of a devastating communist experiment and a chaotic transition period.

Some of the major causes of this are related to land mismanagement, as well as production and distribution problems. The domestic market has been inundated by imported produce, particularly vegetables and fruit, not necessarily of a better quality but certainly cheaper, and Romanians notice nowadays that Romanian apples are more expensive than bananas. But things can change for the better.

I knew this photo was yours even without looking at the name - it just has your signature i guess!

I like the mad-scientist cropping, the arches, the red lettering, the charm and history.
a great building to photograph!

a beautifully structured composition with wonderfully contrasting shapes and colours. It is a tantalising glimpse of some exquisite old architecture. Fascinating image and notes to accompany this compelling presentation.
