Photographer's Note
Just back from a whirlwind trip around the main 'highlights' of Namibia with our son and his partner. It was just over a year ago that I last photographed this sociable weavers nest. Since our last visit a huge heavy chunk of this nest has fallen to the ground, its weight too heavy for the dead tree to support.
For more information on the habits of these large sociable bird communities look here

Wow, a great shot from my part of the world, Rosemary. What makes this one stand out for me is the quality of the light. Great timing in that sense, and you captured this unusual structure very well.
Best regards

Hi dear Rosemary
I trust you had a lovely time with your son. And it's good to see that the photography didn't stop whilst you were playing tour-guide. The light here is absolutely exquisite, especially the warm tones on the tree. And on top of that, we have such an intriguing subject. A beautifully composed and executed photo, congratulations and welcome back, you've been missed.
Hugs

Hello Rosemary,
I have been sitting here, looking at this image for a long time, just enjoying it and wondering what to say that could be construed as constructive critique but I really have no suggestion for improvement as there is room for none...in my opinion anyway. It is just beautiful! Was wondering when we will start seeing images from your latest trip in Namibia. Best wishes.
Neels.
PS: The Naukluft has some very large nappe structures with slices of lithosphere pushed along near-horizontal thrusts and resting on a basement with which they have no genetic relationship.

Hello Rosemary,
lonely trees always work very good as a subject to photos, and this one in the red light is no exception. Beautiful Africa! How your son and his partner can be glad to have such local tourist guides!
Have a nice sunday,

Hello Rosemary,
Welcome back! I'm pleased that you had such a rewarding trip with your son and his partner and that you also managed the time to fit in a bit of photography too. Is your son or his partner a photographer?
An interesting note too and a fine link to that earlier picture of yours. How clever you were to be able to find this very same tree - and thank you for giving us a map to guide us to the place. In fact, if you open up a bigger map, you can see other "Panoramio" pictures of this area too, though I couldn't find any pictures of this or a similar tree!
Gorgeous low light adds a beautiful warmth to this scene and provides long an interesting shadows on the grassland nd the backround mountains. The sky is beautiful and the details and sharpness superb.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Rosemary!
What an amazing picture! The red reflecting the setting sun blazes the nest. The warm tones are brilliant, contrasting with the blue sky. The placement of the tree, the barren branches, the long shadows, all create a fantastic pattern. Interesting the part of the nest which has fallen to the ground. Thanks for the link in your note which made me learn something new
Best Regards

Hello Rosemary,
i have visited the link and read with interest your explanation about the social lifestyle of these african birds.
I have never seen nests as those, the nature is wonderful.
With regard to this photo, i like more this, than the previous in the link. The light is much better, in terms of direction and colour, also the shadows give depth and fascination to the scene.
Excellent exposure control, colours and sharpness.
A very beautiful landscape of one of the most fascinating African countries.
Best regards & ciao

Bonjour Rosemary
C'est incroyable la dimension de ce nid. C'est assez pour faire mourir un arbre sous le poids du volatile. Les teintes de rouge encore accentuées par le soleil couchant sont merveilleuses.
Bon dimanche

Hi Rosemary,
I don't know if you caught the same light last year, but this one is on fire!
I remember how intense and warm was the sun before setting down and I find in your image the same distinctive light that makes Namibia remarkable.
The shadows stretch endlessly, creating strong contrasts. The tree is nicely placed, but by lowering the point of view and moving slightly to the left, the mountain summit wouldn't have been hidden by the nest and tree trunk.
Just for this light, I can't wait to return to Namibia!
Warm regards,
André

Hi Rosemary,
a beautiful golden light characterizes this wonderful landscape, lovely colors and impeccable technique with great depth, I seemed to understand that the straw I sees up the dead tree in FG is made by the birds...
beautiful shot...

Very nice lightning with strong sunset color to put in evidence the giant nest.
The composition is perfect with the placement of the tree in the wide angle view and with the nest against the sky and not overlapping with the landscape to get an easy and efficient readability.

Hello Rosemary,
des couleurs bien plus chaudes que sur la photo précédente, un soleil très bas qui réchauffe encore plus ces lumières.
Un paysage sauvage d'une grande profondeur, un endroit très pittoresque.
Bien amicalement.

I love the warm vs cold colour contrast between the red tinted birds nests & the blue sky. Good graphism of the tree with wonderful sharpness & sidelighting. The purple mountains make a nice backdrop. Tfs!

Hello Rosemary,
the size of these weavers nests on the branches of the tree is amazing, and gives a great interest to the composition, but I love the fantastic low sunlight of the late afternoon, the long shades, and the wonderful warm tonalities of the reddish colors that flood this beautiful landscape.
You have caught all these elements in an image with a great depth and a great sharpness.
A superb work.
Best regards,
Josep

Hi Rosemary. An image with strong colors and great light. Here, the industrious weavers are at work. The nest is much more than a house. You have skillfully captured this beautiful scene with your camera. TOP. Rgds, Wolfgang.
