Photographer's Note

Early morning on the River Pamba. These people are crossing the river on the way to their daily affairs. There is no bridge across the river near this point and Crossing the river is the shortest way to reach the nearest Town, for which they have to the catch a bus.
A famous temple lies on the other side of the river, so the boatman does good business during theTemple festival which begins on the 14th of April every year and lasts for 10 days.
The population is predominantly Hindu, although Kerala itself has a significant percentage of Christians [Christianity is believed to have been introduced in AD 40 by the Apostle Thomas] and Muslims
Unfortunately, the beauty of the river is only skin deep. Pollution from upstream and from the numerous Tourist boats mean that the coliform count is very high and the water itself is undrinkable. This inspite of the relative lack of Industry .
