The Jusangjeolli Cliff, a photo from Jejudo, South

Photographer's Note

Still from my trip to South Korea in 2008, the Jusangjeolli cliff is a spectacular volcanic rock formation at the southern coast of Jeju Island, and it is one of the top tourist destinations on the island. These basalt formations look like pillars and columns and are remnants of volcanic activity. What is so impressive about these rock formations is that they are perfectly hexagonal for the most part, almost appearing handmade. These cliffs were created between 250,000 and 140,000 years ago, when Hallasan was still an active volcano.

These basaltic columns are similar to the more famous cousins in Ireland. Like the contrast between the dark rocks & the almost transparent blue water

Hola Ricardo,

Very impressive cliff and excellent quality photo, it is not an easy shot with the gray and black cliff. This POV make me feel a bit uneasy due to the height. Good composition and the presence of the boat really give a good idea of the size. I wish the hill was not cut off at the top.

Such fascinating coastline, which reminds me alot of the coastline along Antrim in Northern Ireland, the Giants Causeway. Excellent Point of View, colours and sharpness. Nice work.

Hi Ricardo,

You're capturing well both of the coast line and cliff by a good angle and excellent tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see the cliff with unique shape. And, it's harmonized with blue sea in the point of color balance. The peninsula which is visible in the distance and mountain draw out additional good atmosphere.

las formas de estos acantilados de basalto son asombrosas, y dan un fuerte grafismo a la imagen, que se complementa con la belleza del paisaje costero que nos ofrece tu buena composición.

Quite by accident I found a museum with replicas of the terra cotta warriors, located just above the waterfall in Seogwipo. You had good weather & lighting to capture these hexagonal basaltic columns, which were close by! Tfs! Btw there is a similar formation at Fingal in NSW, and Halla-san volcano is dormant. It last erupted 800 years ago.

Very nice striking captured of interesting rockies at the side of sea. Good perspective from eagle's point of view shot to get depth of field and well light management to obtain sharpbess and clarity.

The distance between the cliff sand the opposite shore is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Jusangjeolli cliff. The quality of the light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

I love coastal landscapes . Ans this one is really interesting . These grey rocky formations are fantastic . Just a little detail : it seems to me that it would have been better if you hade not cut the top of the hill in the BG .

we dont get to see too many South Korean photo's here on Te, so this one is a welcome sight for sure.
a beautiful volcanic rock formation, mother nature at her best.
I like that we can also see them below the actual water surface.

These richly textured old cliffs are beautifully seen in this rich light.
The old gray walls contrast wonderfully with the turquoise of the sea.
