Kosher foods are those that conform to the regulations of the Jewish Halakhic law framework, kosher meaning fit or allowed to be eaten. A list of some kosher foods are found in the book of Leviticus 11:1-47. There are also certain kosher rules found there. Reasons for food not being kosher include the presence of ingredients derived from nonkosher animals or from kosher animals that were not slaughtered in the ritually proper manner, a mixture of meat and milk, wine, or grape juice (or their derivatives) produced without supervision, the use of produce from Israel that has not been tithed, or the use of non-kosher cooking utensils and machinery.

The Roman (Jewish) Ghetto was a ghetto located in the rione Sant'Angelo, in Rome, Italy, in the area surrounded by today's Via del Portico d'Ottavia, Lungotevere dei Cenci, Via del Progresso and Via di Santa Maria del Pianto close to the Tiber and the Theater of Marcellus. In Italian, the ghetto was called "Serraglio delli Ebrei" ("Enclosure of the Jews").
The Roman Ghetto was established as a result of Papal bull Cum nimis absurdum, promulgated by Pope Paul IV on 14 July 1555. The bull also required the Jews of Rome, which had existed as a community since before Christian times and which numbered about 2,000 at the time, to live in the ghetto. The ghetto was a walled quarter with three gates that were locked at night. The wall was built under the direction of the architect Giovanni Sallustio Peruzzi. The money for its construction – 300 scudi – had to be paid by the Jewish community. The area of Rome chosen for the ghetto was the most undesirable quarter of the city, subject to constant flooding by the Tiber River. At the time of its founding, the four-block area was expected to contain roughly 1,000 inhabitants.

Kosher or not, this looks like a nice place to sit down for an Italian meal. The hand written menus and the red and white table-cloth are details that provide a cosy atmosphere. A wll captured scene and nicely cropped.

A wonderful composition, which shows remarkably the homely atmosphere of these small restaurants. I like the POV with red tablecloths and table, which give a nice touch of color, the old door with his next letter menus, create an atmosphere very authentic.

Bonsoir Daniel,
C'est une belle fenêtre ouverte sur une petite terrasse très invitante. Elle n'a rien de luxueux, mais elle est charmante et on a envie de s'y attabler. Les couleurs sont belles, le cadrage serré met l'accent sur l'essentiel et le grand cadre noir est très efficace.
