From the vegetable market in central Sanaa, Yemen. I took this picture in 1998 and have scanned it from a Kodachrome slide.

Hey, hey ...another old timer I remember from a few years back. Good to see you still posting. I gotta say, I'm not really overly crazy about the shot, but it's definitely a study in scarlet and oh so reminds me of the scenses I saw in Sana'a ...so for that, it's a great one. I bet these scenes are getting fewer and farther between now, but I guess I'm going to have to go back and just see for myself maybe...

I like very much this composition, half the cadre filled with lovely shiny tomatoes and the boy's movement while doing his work. I love the clarity and bright colours as sunlight is filtred in through the tent. A lovely colourful capture of daily life, thank you!

Hej Gert,
A very red picture with a perfect balance between the tomatoes (or apples???) on one side a the red fez on the other. The boy, with his outstretched arm, is also well balanced with the shaft to the red umbrella behind him. A very good picture indeed.

The vegetable markets in Middle East are always one of the main attraction areas for photography lovers. They are always interesting, colorful and alive. This one is no exception. I adored your composition, the FG in this image is so powerful with contrasting colors of red and green vegetables and a boy seller with a striking fez. Great details in the BG too. The lights and shades are also very well balanced. I have a great respect for your old photos, most of them have great stories and this one is a very good example. Hello Gert,

This really is a testament to just how good Kodachrome really was and how excellent are your skills in scanning and copying old transparencies.

The smartly dressed young man in his fine suit jacket is perfectly placed in the frame and his bright red fez draws our attention to his face. His outstretched hand then takes us to the huge pile of colourful wares he has for sale.

Wonderful varied lighting, fabulous colours and impeccable quality.

Hi Gert,

I like your series from Yemen very much. Interesting photos from the places I do not know anything about. Nice view of all these red tomatoes, in the rather oblong shape, some still not ripe. They look hard and delicious. The red cap ( we call them fez) is eye catching here. very nice exotic mood. I could spend hours strolling in the markets. And I like when I am the only tourist. Excellent scanning.

This is an interesting daily life shot, so it's interesting and impressive to see vegetable market which has arranged the fresh article. It's impressive in mostly red and partial green of vegetable as well as the boy who sells ones, too. The whole is balanced well by a good composition and rich color tone.

Mmmmm! They look yummy. I missed the old Kodachrome, I think they gave a true color. Great pov and dof with nice details. I like the use of the shadows to break up the scene. Very well done, tfs.

I Chose this photo because i like the way that the fruit/veggies are flowing all over the frame, and they continue to fall off at the bottom and the side - as if they are never ending.

you know, Yemen is the reason I found and then joined TE :)
I was looking for pictures on Yemen and found some by marine (eversmile) and that led me to TE...
it's a country I always wanted to visit but I am always too worried (or let's say frightened) to pick as holiday destination.
I know I said it many times but the way the old Kodachrome slides make you "feel" colours is something almost tangible. I have not found anything yet in digital photography that makes me feel like that.
there's a beautiful ray of sunshine on the boy's face that highlights his presence against the busy background. I definitely love the tomatoes, red and green, chaotically piled up as they should be on a market stand, defying order and geometry and the exact opposite of today's supermarkets.
1998 seems like yesterday but it's already 14 years ago... where has the time gone?? :)
