This is Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. Another picture I made of this picture can be seen here. If you look closely on that picture, you see a small tower or gate to the left. My second picture of this castle is made through that gate.

The oldest parts of the Castle were built in 1560 by King Frederik II and the castle is named after him.

The most parts of the present castle was built between 1600-1620 by the son of Frederik II, Christian IV in Dutch Renaissance style.

Christian IV was a very important king; most of Copenhagen (or Denmarks) old building are built by him (like Rosenborg Castle - which you can see on Tue's pages, The Round Tower, and Christianshavn, a part of Copenhagen)

The castle burnt in 1859 but was rebuilt from 1860-84 with financial support from brewer J. C. Jacobsen and later by the Carlsberg Foundation.

The castle is built on three island in the castle lake.

About the picture: I cropped a little bit of the top, increased the contrasts a tiny bit and the red and green somewhat. The last stap was sharpening a bit.

Very nice composition of this castle under this arch, Stef. You managed also to have a perfect symetry of the 2 extremes with the fountain in the middle. Colors of this cloudy day are nice with that magenta domination. Well seen!

Good work! It's difficult to get a whole castle on one picture and you've done it! Well done

Hi Stef

I like vignetting effect of the silhouetted archway, which nicely frames the subject. Superb warm cold opposition between the warm red & cool coppery green rooves.

Een zeer prachtige perspectief Stef ,ik denk dat de goede camerahoek en het boog silhouet hier wel voor iets tussen zit .Mooi contrast ook met het typische groen van de koperen dakbedekking .Goede compositie en zeer scherpe details.

Hi Stef! Very good point of view! Sharpness and colors at their best! Those buildings and structures are so impressive - WOW! Very informative notes, too! Thanks for sharing! rgds.

Good point of view and DOF.I like the composition and framing.I like the architecture of the building.Good colors and good contrast between them.I like the textures, light and sharpness.Well done!

Hi Stef, this photo is a recognizable sight as I happened to visit the castle myself a couple of years ago. It is a very nice and impressive buildning. Nice perspective and composition. Well captured!

Cher Stef,

Flot billede!

John.

Oh very well composed photo - and with a natural frame - I like the fine details you got on this capture - also thanks for the good note to explain - There was a TV-series about the life of J.C.Jacobsen, and I can remember the fact you mention from this - thanks Stef for this fine job.

Great framed shot, Stef. Strange colour to the sky, but anyway, well done.
By the way: Did you tried a further pic, using the fountain's figures as main subject and the (blurred) castle as background? Have to ransack my archive for that...)And hey: Hillerød's got a nice café over the road, opposite the castle's main entrance....

Hello, Stef. WOW... This is a perfect composition, really amazing work. The image is perfectly framed and composed. The sight is great and colors are impressive. Really perfect photo.
Saludos.
Pablo

Nice natural framing with the arch and an accurate exposure in that grey light.
The castle size is emphasized by the slight distortion caused by the wide angle.

Great sharpness, DOF and composition. Good contrast and colors. Congratulations Steft, for this interesting perspective.

what awesome framing we have on this shot. plus I love the rich saturated colors on the castle. your depth is fantastic because you've got the archway above, the fountains, and finally the castle itself. impresssive shot!

Good use of foreground to frame the castle. Also excellent quality in the detail of the building. Good notes on an interesting place.

Gorgeous color, composition and excellent note.

Bonjour Steve,

Hi Stef, This is an excellent picture. It provides well balanced colors, well captured details. The arch on the top has well framed the picture.

I like these shots of a stunning architecural building shot through a framework of an adjacent arch. Usually they are marred by a line, wire, or other distractions. But you have pulled this off perfectly. Framing of the subject within the arch - very nice. Excellent lighting and rich colours.
