Photographer's Note

In the forrests of the southern Indian state of Karnatka a small dedicated band of Vets and Rangers provide treatment and sanctuary for wounded, injured or sick predators like this Asian Lioness. This lady was recovering from a gunshot wound after a warning shot from a frightened farmer found a target in in her back right leg.
The sanctuary is also home to a large herd of Black Buck. Every so often the rangers drive an unfortuneate few of the Buck into the predator reserve, when the recovering Lions of Tigers make their first kill they are deemed fit and returned to the wild of numerous reserves and wild areas around India.
Entry into the predator area of the sanctuary is strictly limited to avoid to much contact with humans, the benefit however is photographers can get up close and personel with little risk of becoming lunch.
Off all the photographic trips I have been on, this one remains the most profound and rewarding, my thanks to the guide and rangers who made my brief visit possible.
