England has these amazing fields of flowers starting in April/May with the wonderful Bluebells in historical woods, to wonderful fields of wild flowers, the light blue fields of flax to the yellow crops of Canola fields and now the stunning RED carpets of Wild Poppies.Sadly the fields are deminishing in size (except those of the crops)and this is apparently having serious effect on insect and bird life. There is a BIG drive for the natural fields to be re-established and re balance the natural life cycle..
These Red Poppy fields together with the white fields in the bg are planted fields on the Getty estate in Stockenchurch. .. I loved it when the sun comes out and the wind blows they look like a live glowing carpet... There was a sharp gusty wind yesterday, thus enhancing the "fullness" of the RED carpet..
PS I have a question for TE members and I guess targeted mainly for the moderators?
Why when posting a field of flowers they are acceptable to the moderators, yet take ONE flower from that field it becomes unacceptable to the moderators? I look forward to an answer and hopefully it does not say - Well its part of the T&C!)

wonderful shot...and the title fits like a glove.
btw...if you want more carpets to be rolled...just go to castelluccio di norcia, where the other Italian trekkers will meet this week-end

I do like both the composition and the light management of this image. A perfect production of a lovely scene! I also like the inclusion of the gate as I think it strengthens the composition.
Best wishes, Ann

A real beauty indeed !
Not very often to have poppies on such a large scale. Splendid red carpet
Excellent idea to use the wooden fence as the FG

surely a poetic and well made image. The red poppies focus the attention on them. There is three different layers in this image, the first is man-made (the gate), the two other fully natural. Two real wonders.

Hello Richard,I must admit I have never seen anything this in our neck of the woods, the sea of red waving in the breeze is quite a sight to behold.
I quite like the gates in the FG which give a nice depth to the picture.
Best regards Les.

really wonderful shot. The colours are stunning and the landscape has some friendly feel for me. Personally, I would crop out the wooden fence. I can see it makes a good depth, but it seems to me the fence is making a barrier between me as a viewer and that beauty.
But it is beautiful anyway.

Il tappeto rosso ...per i principi e per i Santi .
Una foto regale .
Ottima la nota , attenta alla natura ed agli insetti che la fecondano .
Una foto tipica "inglese" ...si certo ...
Brughiera e volpi .

First and foremost, I must address the postscript of your note. I shall, therefore, refer you to the Scriptures. Be aware of Isaiah Ch 55 vv 8-9:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
"For as the Heavens are higher than the Earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
So, Richard, I think that pretty much puts you in your place. Don't argue. But take comfort and Nunquam illigitimi carborundum!
To your photograph and the rest of your note:
This is a beautiful shot: wonderful depth of field with that small aperture (f/11 - that's almost unknown for you) - even the foregound gate is in sharp focus. The gate, I think, really makes this picture, its top rail running parallel with the distant edge of the red poppy field The colours are wonderful, the exposure spot-on and the clarity and sharpness perfect.
P.S. Acts Ch 9 v 5: "..it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks."

this carpet of red flowers is gorgeous. Looks an amazingly beautiful. This composition and frame is perfect. Great light, colors, sharpness, super POV. I like it so much. Wonderful work.
All the best,

This is simply a gorgeous scene. :-) We don't have wide open spaces like this in NYC, so I have to see this beautiful sight through your photos. I like the various divisions, including the fence in the foreground. It seems like we are peaking into the field as opposed to being directly in it. The only good thing about seeing these flowers in a photo only, is that I don't have to worry about my pollen allergy!!! ;-)

What a beautiful field of red, and I like your title, it fits well. It really is eye catching and I like the contrast between the flowered field and the more "plain" coloured landscape further in.

Dobar tekst ...
Lep pogled preko drvene ograde na polje sa crvenim cvetovima i sumu u daljini, lepe boje i fotografija.
Dobar ugao snimka, prikaz i kompozicija.
Prijatan dan sa lepim vremenom.
Sve najbolje za vikend.

Superb red carpet which arise very well in this beautiful landscape. This large Fg nad the wood's barrier give a greta depht to the composition. Contrast well collected too under a blue and cloudy sky.
Have a nice WE,

You like the red poppies, I like them too. Fantastic view. I like hee as they ae close to each othe with the bigger distance. Are they here cultivated or just weeds? And what about flax field? I liked it too, looked like a lake.
Have a nice Sunday

I saw many nice fields with wild red poppies when traveling via Western Europe last month. But I have never seen such an abundance of these beautiful flowers in one place. The scene is very colorful, interesting and highly attractive. You have captured it perfectly. Great job!
lakshmip1949 (19110) 2011-07-11 7:46
Perfect title. It looks like a velvet carpet. Love those beautiful red flowers. Nice inclusion of the wooden fence in the foreground. Superb colors and sharpness.
InasiaJones (31248) 2011-07-12 7:07
What a sight! Your title couldn't be more relevant...
These wild poppies stand out so nicely against the green landscape, it's quite a show.
It's just a suggestion here, but by placing your camera a bit lower next to the fence (not showing it), you would have offered the impression that the field was endless, while using some of them close to the lens in order to increase the effect of depth. Instead of having a flat carpet, you would have catch some bright vivid bulbs in close-up, while the rest of the field would have created a deep perspective. The use of a wide angle would have been necessary for this effect, using it between 16mm to 28mm at f/18 and preferably with a tripod.

en Normandie, je n'ai pu trouver un champ que de coquelicots, et avec joie, en regardant tes photos je vois que tu as bien assuré avec le premier plan du haut de la barrière et cette multitude de coquelicots, des petites têtes rouges

Hello Richard, that's an impressive pastoral composition with the wonderful view of the sea of red poppies. It is also a good idea to include the wooden gate in front which highlights the sense of depth of field. Best regards, Tolga
