This is my second post of this event this year.
Here, a young shepherd is reaching the chapel with his flock. Together, they are going to start circling it, according to the tradition.
As I said in the previous posts, this event takes place every year on Saint Anthony's day, near a small church devoted to S. António dos Cabaços. On this day, very early in the morning, most part of the shepherds in the area bring their goats and sheep for the celebrations, because Saint Anthony is their protector. Early in the morning there's a procession and an outdoor mass. Then, the flocks come and they are kept in the shadow under the trees, as it's usually hot. Then, around 04.00 or 05.00 in the afternoon, when it's getting cooler for them, each one of the shepherds brings them to near the chapel. They start from the right side of the chapel and they go around it a few times, always with the sheperd in front leading them. This way the sheperds are thanking the saint for the protection their animals have received during the last year and they also ask for protection for the next year. After that, they are taken home. On this day, the fields around the church are full of locals who come to make picnics and watch the celebrations.

Ciao dear Ana,
meaningful image of this celebration, which testifies to the close relationship between man and animals. I believe that animals also have a soul and is right to ask their protection as for the men. Excellent photo quality, as always. Brava!
Ciao, have a nice weekend!

Boa noite a Ana,
A luz, a limpeza é aperfeiçoada. Bravo.

A very interesting image with an equally interesting explanatory note. We are used to goats in Africa but it is a very different environment. Why the objects hanging from their necks? Surely not just bells. Maybe to prevent them from going through fences? Best wishes.

This is a superb shot, close enough highlighting in great detail, full of action there. I can feel the festive mood , the noice, sound of the shepherd shooing the flock and the dust at the back.. all this combines to reflect the cheery atmosphere. Interesting there two diff types of bells round the necks; the sheeps with normal bell, but the goats spotted 'long tin liked bell' Ana I am interested to know why the difference? Love the slight blur in the background thus attention is focused on the main subject.Great happy picture, Congrats, Cheers!

What an amazing tradition. The shepherd with his flock. I can imagine the sounds of the bells, as they make their way, and the animals make their own sounds. It's an exotic scene, and complemented by an informative note.
Warm regards, Ana.

it is really an excellent daily life. Very good clarity and sharpness. The shepherd with his cattle are looking well with blurred background. Colour tone is excellent and the depth is superb. Great shot indeed. Tfs.

Great shot, I do love photo that depict the old way and tradition way of doing thing, it give that nostalgic feeling, even if this is not something I know well, it still bring so much more meaning to the photo. We all do need a blessing, animal included. Those bells must be heavy to carry around but it must be part of the tradition. It seem the bigger the better. this sheep and goat are impressive with their horns. Good shot and thank for the note.

You're capturing well this interesting festival by a good composition and excelent tone, so it's imppressive to see a spectacle that a shepherd take along lot of sheeps and goes to chapel. And, it's interesting to hear that all the animals present are blessed by the priest, too.

What a lovely tradition ! I think it's nice that they should include their animals in their prayers, ask God for their protection and thank Him for their well-being.
Excellent, dynamic capture capture of the moving flock led by their shepherd, with the dust they create as the walk !
What huge bells they carry around their necks ! Isn't it uncomfortable ?
Thanks for sharing.
