It's all about marketing... There is no more belief in revolution and all that crap... Purely a marketing thing... For how long, more?....

Yes, the belief has long gone...only the archaic remains are left with a colonial decadence which is an attraction for western tourists. The cigar & the star are all heritages kept alive desperately. Yes, a pure marketing thing & I think it will remain...as would be the names who are 'worshipped'

Marketing is everywhere except some places who don't want themselves to get in this monkey business or better say who have been successful in saving the integrity of their cultures and races. Some of them like Paduang Woman or even Rajasthan have a different story.
A nice portrait with natural tones. The blur is perfect

Viva la revolucion hey? I met a Venezuelan who dressed like Che once, he was very assured of the revolution, but he was like a walking advert, people stopped and waved to him all the time.
The focus and depth are fantastic here, he is stern, convinced, confident.

I like very much this portrait. A character. Whether it is fake for marketing or just something related to his own ego, I don't know; but I find it out of the box. I like the way it seems the cigar will pierce the screen. The salute and the star on the hat add of course a lot to this already picturesque character. The sharpness is good and you managed well with a strong light.
It reminds me how much I miss the Christian Brandstaetter collection from Cuba.

What a character! You're his master, and the hand sign is for you. I like the star on his hat, and of course the big cigar. We are in cuba, aren't we?

I like the title and the muted colour and your interpretation of the the classic image we would expect from Cuba.....of course it has sales value....on a billion T-shirts world-wide tomorrow!!

sometimes I ask myself if what we find when we visit places and countries is really what is there, what we were looking for or what we think makes up the "image" of that place... between marketing, tourism, cliches and prejudices, plus our own expectations, I wonder if what comes out (or across) in our photos really bears something of the uniqueness of the places we visit.
having said that, what remains is the picture itself, its artistic and intrinsic qualities. which, in this case, whether the moment and the subject be real or not, is pretty much to my taste :)
I like what you did with the image, there is an alternation between sharp and soft elements that accurately describes the importance of the man's salute, eyes and cigar in the economy of the visual elements.
I'd pay to hear the thoughts in his head :)
