[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Abraham Lincoln - named after the U.S.'s 16th president - is part of the U.S. Asia Pacific Command deployed to Aceh for the humanitarian mission.

This is an old photo of the carrier's control tower - note the guy at the top.

It was taken in 1998 when the fleet arrived at Hong Kong for some R&R. I joined a small tour group and we were given a 2 hour tour of the ship.

Tech: Cropped, resized and sharpened. Brightness -6. Contrast +6. Added border.

Very massive piece of this boat, I like the angle.
All details are well done and this is a very interesting composition to share and see.

I have 45 year ago been at the Navy Andrew, but never on this way a large aircraft carrier, only a minesweeper, that must are formidable, for with a small tour group and a 2 hour tour of the ship.
Perfect capture Andrew.
Thanks for comment and sharing.
Greetings John.

Not a bad angle, showing the size of the great beast. (A little pity about that bright white cloud.) I like that you included the "interesting figures" information in your note, considering that the ship is now on a humanitarian mission; One kind of compares the amount of food needed just for the humanitarians, not to mention the amount needed for those they are going to help. Reminds us of the grand size of the situation. Thanks for sharing this old photo, Andrew. :o)

Impressive view of this giant tower Andrew, great capture, this is a great opportunity and this is a nice souvenir, very well presented, good work.

Wow, well done. I like the point of view giving it a towering, skyscraper, feel. I once saw a few large carriers in dock in Norfolk and saw, I believe, the Harry S. Truman under construction across the harbor. And it's amazing to see how big they are. And it's amazing the stats you give us. On a show about life on a carrier they showed how they made food for over 5000 which was amazing. And that size is well seen here in this view of this single small part. Nice job.

Impressive, Andrew, how your image speaks strength, force and high technology. This is a huge 'tower' shown in a convincing angle, as you've chosen to go quite close - I've never seen it this way before. It's so rich in details, that it's almost overwhelming. All the equipment stored on top of each other - all this, together with the lone guy in the rig showing scale. And combined with the data in your note - this is just great. Very well done!
If you don't mind, I'll add this to my theme 'ATC Towers of the World'.

bonjour Andrew, quel détail imposant de ce bateau, il serait peut-être intêressant de le voir en entier par la suite, bon angle de prise de vue.
amitié/ martine.
désolée à sec demain.

Very impressive! Very interesting angle, give a good idea of the size of the beast.

Hello Andrew,

I missed this one. Glad I got to see it. The gives a good idea of the size of this ship. Maybe putting some of the sailors in it would have given a better idea of the proportions.
I really enjoyed the text, it's incredible when you stop to think about what it takes to run something of this size. Thanks for the info.
