Photographer’s Note
Óbidos history begins around 300 years before Christ. Built by the Celts, it would later be occupied by the Romans, the Visigoth, the Arabs and finally the 1st portuguese king, Dom Afonso Henriques, conquered it in 1148.
Largely affected by the great earthquake of Lisbon, in 1755, the reconstruction preserved the ancient style.
King D. João V gave named it "The Plebeian with a gold belt", alluding to the battlement color. Today it is an unique sight, when you drive by the Lisbon highway coming to Caldas da Rainha.
If you ever come to Portugal, don´t miss it.

Great photo. I am also a HUGE fan of Obidos as you can tell by my photos. When was this photo taken? Was there a celebration at the time? I would love to be there for an event you have captured in the photo.
