Photographer's Note

This interesting escarpment is called Moon Hill. I rode a bike there based on one sentence in a lonely planet guide that described a mountain with a hole through the middle of it. That was the only description. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was about a 45 minute ride outside of Yangshuo. I happened to meet and befriend a chinese mountain guide who took me up to the very top. The area around this mountain is all karst terrain which means that it erodes very easily. In this case the mountain is fairly narrow so a cave just managed to erode the whole way through it. Sounds simple enough, but I had never seen anything like that before or since.
