Old High Road, a photo from Rostov, North Caucasus

Photographer's Note

This road (Antratsyt – Dyakovo – Rostov-on-Don) was formerly a part of the main thruways connecting central regions of Russia and its southern lands. But when the railways and highways (Moskow – Kharkiv – Rostov-on-Don and Moskow – Voronezh – Rostov-on-Don) had been built it became a much less important way. Although the road connects Ukraine and Russia, now it is considered as a local road being mostly unpaved. In Rostov Oblast it runs via three rural districts not coming into its capitals. The picture was taken in Rodionovo-Nesvetayskiy district, around 45 km from Rostov.

On the skyline you can see one of very many shelterbelts planted since 1948 across the steppes of southern USSR according to Stalin’s "Great Plan for Transformation of Nature". A shelterbelt or ‘lesopolosa’ (‘forest strip’) in Russian is the best place for overnight rest during a bike travel.

un'immagine semplice, composta da pochi elementi, ma che grazie ad un POV perfetto e ad un'attenta costruzione della scena diventa molto attraente.
Splendido il campo di grano sulla destra e la strada che corre all'infinito infilandosi tra i due alberi. Molto belli i colori e la luce.

This is indeed quite a simple view, but nonetheless very beautiful. The picture is clearly separated by the differently coloured parts; yellow field, grey road, green field and blue sky. A very pleasant capture and a fine note too!

Hello Sergiy,

For a few days we have had a beautiful sun on Versailles, as on this photograph, but, certainly, not the same temperatures !!! The cold arrives… Beautiful catch of sight on this estival road, I appreciate your framing on the landscape which has much dynamics, one would believe myself on the bicycle… The natural colors are very pleasant and the light well managed. The different colors beside the road are beautifuls because the contrast between them. I always like photos of roads like this. The trees added a nice effect in the composition.

I must confess, if I was cycling, I might prefer this road to the one I commented on yesterday: now walking, that would be a different story. Lovely use of thirds from left to right - the green, grey then yellow. The trees framing the road give the shot a clear point for the eye to focus on. Первое впечатление, пока фото еще не открыта, что справа работа Шишкина...Помнишь поля его, представленные как в Третьяковке, так и в Киеве есть несколько его работ, такого плана...
Еще может представлять инь и ян в такой вот, увиденной тобой, простой, но в тоже время и оригинальной форме!

Fantastic depth of field of this composition, the road leads the eye to a distant point in the distance, those big trees on both sides give a good point in the image, also is a nice contrast of green crops on the side of the road and the golden field of grain on the other side.

I like these kind of deserted roads with the fieldson both the sides. The image has great depth. The road looks so clean and the fields look endless as if touching the horizon. Great colors and nice sharp image.
