2) 33% from acid rain from air pollution, such as automobile exhaust and urban smog, and coal burning power plants.
3) 12% from marine transport, such as oil spills from ship wrecks and leaky hulls.

maphoto (8082) 2005-01-01 23:57
Excellent composition, great colors and light, I like the tight cropping that you did wich creates a nice atmosphere, great sharpness, well done.
rjdrjd (16) 2005-01-02 0:28
Wow Peter, fantastic picture! Absolutely love the mood of it.
voodoo (60) 2005-01-02 1:13
I love your series on pollution. I was curious on how much PP you did on this. The colour seem, although very nice, a bit unnatral. Keep it going! I love it.
polongi (160) 2005-01-02 3:16
Only problem here i cant get your note. is it your subject that the sea tranport w/c contribute 10%.
For the photo, i like the POV here. I was on the CN tower before(last may).
bantonbuju (51765) 2005-01-02 3:18
jmignot (204) 2005-01-02 3:34
Very impressive shot. The colors look like in some of Turner's paintings!
The contrast between the rusty ship closing the foreground and the proud shape of the tower at the back can serve as a paradigm of our modern technological world…
yekjohn (1890) 2005-01-02 3:55
Very good texture and color as a result of your excellent exposure control. Great composition too! Cheers, John.
danyy (0) 2005-01-02 3:57
justa (0) 2005-01-02 5:30
Wow! What a incredible composition! Great colours, superb shot, excellent mirror the water, bravo! my favourite.
Kenny10pin (19301) 2005-01-02 8:53
Very good image, I like the dark image, very good colours taken here, I think b/w would look really good too
ninadev (5377) 2005-01-02 9:06
VEry dramatic look that works very well with your information on pollution. Nice compo too, seeing the CN tower situates the scene and really adds to the pic.
Jeppe (18654) 2005-01-02 10:39
Amazing light and atmosphere you captured here Peter - The red sky and the composition of boats with interesting reflections makes your note stronger - yes Water a must for all life - and also an element of danger. Thanks for sharing.
jrj (34841) 2005-01-02 11:06
Strong setting Peter. Like an articifal made 'movie scene'. The brownish impact, the swans or ducks there, the tower - fine details perfect for this compo, good notes.
jmdaoudal (82) 2005-01-02 12:10
I like very much this kind of athmosphere you create in offering this place and colors.
robiuk (10807) 2005-01-02 12:33
why this reminds me of illustrations usually found on covers of SF novels/comics from the '50s & '60s?
Probbaly because of the elements of the doom seen everywhere within the frame.
Excellent job, Peter!
Schultzy (5446) 2005-01-02 13:43
Very efficient framing and composition. Perfect exposure. Very interesting subject and note Peter. Well done !
scalerman (26900) 2005-01-02 18:32
besides the sobering note, this shot is just full of subtle, rusting hues - a real pro capture.
chappy77 (306) 2005-01-02 20:05
Amazing colours! Really like the mood it gives.
S5000 (4) 2005-01-02 22:21

Marilou (22) 2005-01-03 17:30
Wow! Bravo!
pridel (233) 2005-01-03 22:16
it is a strange atmosphere which you offers to us there.
the rusted metal tonalities are dark and cold as your note it is a very beautiful composition
Pattyjy (2180) 2005-01-04 8:39
Bravo, Patty.
ChristianS (2997) 2005-01-05 10:08
Beautiful photo and composition Peter, I find the subdued light fantastic, I like how it brings out the rusty texture of the hull to the right. Contrast and colours are superb and I like the inclusion of the high tower to the left it balances the picture. Well done!
tomaszmarcinek (1507) 2005-01-05 12:34
It's surreal. The ice in the foreground. The overcast warmth, the sunset + citylights. Just surreal. Tomek
Miks (1717) 2005-01-05 22:52
The stunning vast range of colours is perfectly 'held together' by the beatiful soft light. Absolutely great. The sharpness and richness of detail and overall good compo makes this a poster-worthy pic (although it is probably too gloomy to hang over the couch;). Great work!
PS: I bet that a lot of us could learn a lot from technical notes!
deud (1920) 2005-01-06 2:09
Peter, your photos show me how to make an artistic presentation of things aroud us! It is not only pictures. It is filtered trough your vision, trough your soul. And a gigant plus in your favor is your ability and a good knowledge of PS. thanx.
hispic (9619) 2005-01-07 6:36
It seems as a beautiful painting if there is no explanation.
You've created a great atmosphere with wonderful profound colour, composition and sharpness!
michel_r (1118) 2005-01-08 14:01
You are again very well conveying the description of your note Peter. This excellent picture would fit perfectly well with an end of the world mood, on a very polluted planet as you see them in sci-fi. Mixing the boats with the sci-fi looking tower in the background make it very effective in this respect. Everything's turning to rust, and still the name of the boat is so sharp and so new, so the world continues as if nothing was happening.
This is very professional work imo.
Kicka (0) 2005-01-10 14:49
Very nice photograph Peter. Well composed with great light and colors. Very moody too.
Gix (3565) 2005-01-12 15:18
Very nice, stunning & dramatic photo Peter, compliments!
You render excellently the atmosphere, with a superb use of the light. And the note is perfecly in sintony with your intention.
Very nice job!
Mr_Martini (27) 2005-01-13 8:42
Greate color and phantasmagorial feeling.
Zepi (22848) 2005-01-14 3:23
Superbe travail Peter!
maciekda (19895) 2005-01-14 10:00

A good composition made very effective with smart post production. The staged lighting effects here are straight out of a hollywood production. Impressive stuf!
Maru (0) 2005-02-17 13:31
Superb composition, Peter!
The hole atmosphere is so powerful, it's like a painting..
I love the frame of this shot and the colors are incredible. you captured a very good light here.

danielswalsh (13593) 2005-03-17 23:18
Great shot Peter!
I would love to know some more shooting details for this one mate. What were the original conditions like? Did you have to do a lot of darkening, increased saturation etc?
The effect you've attained is superb! I'm envious, I'd like to try working some of your magic here on some of my shots!
DAM (153) 2005-03-24 23:01
You have a lot of information here, and many details which work well with one another. Very impressive and good strong story. Regards

First Edit: [2005-02-27 11:52]
I think your whole collection of pictures on TE is stunning and I have chosen this one to stop by and say it to you... :o)
It just does not look real! Because you made a too beautiful image - [or is it an acryllic painting and you're cheating!] - of the huge pollution problematic you're talking about in your excellent note. But see here the sulphurous and "poisonned" air in background, it looks like coming from fairy tales - [or is it Hell?]
- And the rusty ship have such a wonderful texture and warm tones. Even the flag looks like you have painted it that way, proudly waving its fresh colours.
Absolutely wonderful work! I wish I had discovered you earlier...
* NB - Later Edit: I've proposed this picture for the TE Book but I just realized I needed your written autorization. Would you mind? :o)
Amicalement - Viviane

rbcy1974 (20758) 2006-04-03 13:21
I just saw this in the presentation page
it is one of the most amazing pictures I have seen here
the ambiance helps to stress the apocaliptic athmosphere
how did you capture such conditions?
Goes to my favorites
Albrecht (11281) 2006-04-03 13:23
I love the subject;atmosphere, timing and colours here. Well captured moment.Your compo is also wonderful!

Voltri (1775) 2006-04-03 13:37
Excellent! Very unusual colors: from first glance even hard to say this is a photo, I would say it's a picture from 40's :)
djprat (72) 2006-04-03 14:02
very impressive artistic picture! it's look like a surrealistic painting! perfect composition and colors!
Owca (92) 2006-06-04 8:37

The details are really intense, and the colours are great.
Polonaise (5802) 2006-12-28 17:28
A to krzyczy calym pyskiem rozwartym szeroko...
Wspanialych dni w Nowym 2007 zycze ja z Piotrkiem.
stevep (556) 2007-03-15 1:21
how you got such a good exposure(with limited equipment) is amazing -- thanks for letting us know about post-processing(via voodoo).
its just a really good photo, as you no doubt already know -- maybe too good as the quality of photography present in this photo transcends/overshadows the message.
bwiti (402) 2007-04-10 13:09
Superbe photo...

dragonslayero (3116) 2009-05-07 7:59
Thank you for sharing such a great photo and a subject that seems to affect us all.
About the photo first. The choice of composition, POV and general idea behind the photo is excellent. The two ships do interfere with eachother slightly, but this is only a slight matter. Overall the great post processing preserves the colours and the almost dark nature of the subject in the note.
Overall, an excellent photo.
BrunoCH (2) 2011-08-01 15:38
And 100% a great picture because of the composition, the colors and the dramatic effect you succeded to share with us. Congratulations.
Noel_Byrne (20105) 2012-07-19 5:30
amazing image, its like something from a bleak futuristic movie. Color and light are perfect, brilliant image. TFS!
Romano46 (16578) 2013-01-14 12:27
