Photographer’s Note
This is a slot canyon in Zion National Park, Utah, USA. Some may feel that it is kind of a cliché to take such shots, but my feeling is that it is like taking a picture of a flower and such things never get old. My question is that dark area in the back--is it too dark? I kind of like it--I tend to like dark, rich shots that bring out the vibrant colors.

Wow! The grooves draw me in. Very dynamic.
BTW, it isn't too dark. I wouldn't retouch the exposure or levels on this one. It is this pasty, chocolate feel to it that nails my attention.
PS: I ran out of smileys to give for today. But this is a definite green!

It makes me want to be there. I don't think it's too dark, in fact, darkness makes it feel more realistic. Great shot!

How's talking about cliche? You chose a nice angle and the light of the day is perfect. Beautiful colours, especially the red on the left side comes out nicely this way.

A shot like this is certainly not a cliche for me, nor many others, who simply would never be able get close up to this type of rock formation, we've all seen the Grand Canyon (I know this isn't), many times, but always from a distance, the feeling of opressiveness and claustrophobia is very strong in this type of shot.

Cliche?.. Never.. I've been here and seen many shots similar, but each has it's own merit. I like the lighting and subdued colors here. While many of the colors in Zion are very vibrant, the colors do range from soft to very bright and I think you've done quite well.

Nice shot! There are a couple of things I'd consider to improve it though, to end I've posted a Workshop :-D

I like the dark area, its deep and rich and provides contrast.
The red does seem a little of.

Very good composition. I liked very much the stone colors and textures.

David- In essence a greatly composed and excellent shot. I like the light, the colors, and the feeling from it makes me have a small "shudder", as if I were there. The red looks okay also (707). Great shot.
