Another shot taken at Appleby Horse Fair.This shot suffers from OE due to the bright sunshine and the fact that I should have stopped down to avoid this. Converted to b & w to try and remedy this.I think this is my favourite from Appley this year as I loved the zest for life shown here by these young traveller and Romany people.This is where I was feeling very intrepid as I got my feet wet and nearly got knocked over several times.Another favourite Appleby shot of mine taken in 2007.

Hello Bev,
I see no problems of oe here. What I see is a picture of action and – yes – a zest for life. A good POV, at the price of having you nearly knocked over, water splashing among the feet and hooves, a study of intense concentration in the young man's face, and a good eye contact with the guy to the right in the background.
But are these people Romany? Does that mean the same as Roma, or gypsies? They certainly don't look like their breathren in Sweden or the Balkans.

what a good feeling of movement, despite the washed out sky, for me this doesn't matter as it focuses attention on the foreground - excellent!

Looked a brilliant day, and I still haven't been there yet.

Hi Bev,
There are indeed plenty of actions in this picture! Good parallel lines between the boy and the horse to provide a very good composition. The black and white format works very well here, in fact the photo gets a more documentary feeling.

I think the conditions to photograph where not easy and you managed them well. I'm quite jealous of the photo :-) Love the choice of the b&w and the attitude of the young man and his horse. A photo full of dynamism !

Hello Bev - It was with great excitement that I came across your Appleby Horse Fair shots, an event I so badly want to see first hand. When I lived in the UK, I went to Stow Fair several times but for more serious horse trading this is the place to go. Magical, lively shot with a great atmosphere!
