This centre was established back in 1975 with the main purpose to rehabilitate injured or orphaned wild animals taken from the jungles all over Sarawak

Unlike in a zoo, the Orang Utan at Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre are set free in a 740-hectare forest reserve. Here they are nurtured to readapt to the jungle life. The Centre is only 32 kilometers south of the Capital, Kuching.
A 30-minute leisurely stroll on the specially built plankwalks from the entrance of the Rehabilitation Centre also provides an opportunity to view various species of rainforest trees and several types of tropical fruit trees.
The Centre opens daily from 8.35am - 3.45pm including Sundays and Public Holidays. It is recommended to visit at or before feeding times. The feeding times are 8.30am - 9.00am and 11.45am - 12.00noon in the morning and 3.00pm - 3.15pm in the afternoon.
The sighting of the orang utans is not guaranteed even during these feeding times. One may leave the wildlife centre fuming, as I did, for not being able to see even a single orang utan even after waiting for a few hours. The fact is, while the recuperating orang utans prefer to come down to the wildlife centre for the free food, they can also find wild figs, durians, young leaves, insects, flowers, eggs and lizards in the surrounding expansive forests. In fact, the occasional disappearance of these orang utans is certainly a good indication that these adorable primates are slowly adjusting to the real wilderness and are able to forage for food on their own.
On my first visit I was a little disappointed & came away without getting a glimpse of these animals, but there were many people there who like me were waiting & waiting, so my attention turned to them & this little fellow immediately caught my eye.
The word "orangutan" comes from the Malay words "orang" (man) and "(h)utan" (forest); hence, "man of the forest".

La mamma aveva bellissimi occhi azzurri ma qui abbiamo gli occhi marroni e altrettanto belli, del bambino. Presi al Centro di riabilitazione della fauna selvatica Semenggoh.
Semenggoh Centro di riabilitazione della fauna selvatica è stato istituito nel 1975 con lo scopo principale di riabilitare animali selvatici feriti o rimasti orfani nelle giungle di Sarawak
E diverso di un zoo,qui vengono lasciati liberi in una riserva forestale di 740 ettari. Qui cercano di riadattare gli animali alla vita della giungla. Il Centro si trova a solo 32 km a sud della capitale, Kuching.
Ci vuole dei circa 30 minuti dall'ingresso del Centro di Riabilitazione per vedere i Orang Utangs ma la passeggiata offre anche l'opportunità di vedere diverse specie di alberi della foresta pluviale e diversi tipi di alberi di frutti tropicali.
Il Centro è aperto ogni giorno dalle 8:35-3:45 compresi la domenica ei giorni festivi. Consigliano di visitare prima o mentre ci danno da mangiare, che sarebbe a 8:30-9:00 e 11:45 - 12.00 la mattina e 15:00-3:15 del pomeriggio.
A vederli non è che sia garantito anche durante questi tempi, e facile andar casa un può arrabbiati, come ero io, perche anche dopo un paio di ore non sono stato capace di vedere un unico orang utan. Il fatto è che delle volte preferiscono a scendere verso il centro della giungla per il cibo, con la possibilita di trovare fichi selvatici, durii, foglie fresche, insetti, fiori, uova e lucertole. In realtà, la scomparsa di questi animali è sicuramente una buona indicazione che questi primati sono per adattarsi alla loro vita intesa e hanno cominciato di foraggiare per l'alimentazione da soli.
Nella mia prima visita ero un po’ deluso e sono venuto via senza vedere uno di questi primati, ma persone eravamo in tanti, tutti come me, che con pazienza aspettavano, con la mancanza dei Urang Utan il mio immediato interesse si rivolse a loro e questo bambino in particolare.
La parola "orango" deriva dalla parola malese "orang" (uomo) e "(h) utan" (foresta), da qui, "uomo della foresta.
