Photographer’s Note

This is Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød.

The oldest parts of the Castle were built in 1560 by King Frederik II and the castle is named after him.

The majority of the present castle was built between 1600-1620 by Frederik II's son, Christian IV in Dutch Renaissance style with sweeping gables, sandstone decorations and copper-covered roofs and spires. (He loved the Dutch Renaissance style, just like I do)

Christian IV was a very important king; most of Copenhagen (or Denmarks) old building are built by him (like Rosenborg Castle - which you can see on Tue's pages, The Round Tower - which you can see on Jeppe's pages, and Christianshavn, a part of Copenhagen)

The castle burnt in 1859 but was rebuilt from 1860-84 with financial support from brewer J. C. Jacobsen and later by the Carlsberg Foundation.

The castle is built on three island in the castle lake.

The 17th was a gray day, but suddenly the sun began to shine. I cropped the picture a bit and I increased the contrast somewhat.
