This picture looks as if it was taken at sunset, but it was at least another 3 to 4 hours before the sun would reach the horizon. However, the sun is almost straight into the lens -- it is just right of the right hand side border of this picture. With a very fast shutter speed of 1/2048 s and an aperture of f/6.0 it was possible to catch the glimmering effect of the sun onto the water surface without having real exposure problems. Granted, there is not much color in the picture, but I find this more a nice effect than a problem.
The photo was taken in the UK in the town of Burnham-on-Crouch. There is a rather strong tide on the Crouch river due to its proximity to the sea. As the tide comes and goes, the little boats sometimes drop until they hit the river bed. |
