Photographer’s Note
The biggest viaduct in the world is opened today!
This is a structure 2460 m long, consisting of eight cable-stayed bays, the longest of which is 342 m. The 2-lane dual carriageway suspensed almost 270 m above the Tarn will follow a wide curve with a slight gradient of 3 % to improve visibility on the structure and protect road-users. Lateral screening is designed to reduce wind effects. The seven bridge piers will be built of reinforced concrete, in the form of pyramids splitting into reversed V-shapes ; thereby providing anchorages for the splayed cables. The tallest pier unit will reach a height of 340 m, as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
About 127 000 m3 of concrete, 19 000 tons of reinforcing steel and 5 000 tons of prestressed steel (cables and stays) will be needed to build the structure.

Thank you Jan for this excellent photo. This is the first time I see the great bridge. I like the B&W mode and the grain is well rendered.

Composed "à l'ancienne".
well done for this post of actuality.
The dramatic view is interesting, opens a reflexion, and quality is good.
I like it

Well done. I like the dark contrast of the landscape and the grain. It enforces the impression of this monument.

Great picture Jan! The B&W and strong grain add a marvellous atmosphere.
It could be a lovely idea to have a (temporary?) theme about the bridge... (I already have one picture posted and another one to go)

Une photo un peu apocalyptique du viaduc dont on devine qu'il va essyuer vents et pluies violents.

A very dramatic sky for a very dramatic shot, the grain goes well with the atmosphere. Thanks for the note and the picture!

I like the grain strengthens the architectural masterpiece. Great contrasts, composition and POV, good DOF.

Bien belle photo!!! Surtout impressionnante avec les nuages menaçants! Nous passerons par le viaduc le 26 décembre... Si le temps le veut!
