Photographer's Note

The French engineer Jean-Antoine Félix Dissandes de Monlevade founded, in 1817, the first ironworks in Brazil. There the city of Monlevade was born, with the Portguese form of the name of the engineer. In the picture we see that ironworks, former Belgo Mineira and today Arcelor Mittal Monlevade, where the city first developed. Today the ironworks is the main activity in the city and, in Brazil, one of the most important sectors of the economy is the steel sector.
