On a guided tour by the shadiest "tour guide", we were led to a tannery in the middle of Fes. I spotted her (I am still not sure if it's a he or she), walking up a flight of stairs in the middle of the day. She glanced at me for one moment and I happened to have camera out. If you think you have a bad job, try walking a flight of stairs in her feet (no shoes on her).
In the repost, I gave the picture a much tighter crop and added a border. Since the camera I used to take the phot was only a 2megpix the quality is dramatically affected after processing. That being said, I think this version is much more eye catching and striking. I hope you enjoy it.

Much better than the original in my opinion. I like the warm pink palette and all the emotion in that single eye...

Good portrait. Beautiful color of this picture. Congratulations. Good job.
Michael_Gan (2776) 2004-12-13 1:50
Wow, this crop is a major improvement. Much more powerful and intimate. Don't bother the quality, I think this is a very good picture!

Superpe prise de vue Mark!

Mark, I didn't see the original, but this one is great. (Well I have now, and what a difference a bit of cropping makes).
That face is is so innocent, and your capture has been perfect. Is there a bit of fill flash there? There is a catchlight in her eye, or maybe just a reflection.
Keep up the travelling and the snapping, good work.
arnabchat (7233) 2004-12-13 2:55
well done. good cropping, gives a different perspective through the compo. colors and light: perfect.
thebecky (688) 2004-12-13 3:10
Fantastic! I just looked at the original version and what a difference. As you said much more striking. The eye and the facial expression are now the focal point which is much more effective. Very nice.

A lovely portrait... Love the effect the "blanket" is giving to htis image. It's really nice. And her look , so sweet and beautiful.
Very nice catch Mark.

I find the composition really excellent : just one eye in a small cloth opening. Framing is great.
In addition, colors are well saturated. It is a very nice portrait Mark. Congratulation !

Fantastic portrait, Mark - I love this crop. The colours are wonderful and the folds of the blanket create a great frame for his/her beautiful face. I love the inclusion of the arm and hand which seems to add a certain vulnerability to his pose.
naxius (16685) 2004-12-13 4:02
Superb portrait Mark. I like the rich colors, very saturated and the light is excellent.
The eyes are catching us.
Very good, indeed.
sengir (4956) 2004-12-13 4:46
wow! very good picture, but I would make even more radical crop (see my workshop). What do you think of it?
michel_r (1118) 2004-12-13 7:16
Very nice picture. The blanket and its wave creates a very effective framing and a nice light on the face of the biy. Very good.

Hi mark...Morocco is mmy favorite place to photograph. So beautiful, so many actions, so friendly people. The tannery is on top of my list.
This is a very good picture. the compo is dramatic with that colored cloth around her head.

A very sensitive portrait, tho possibly enlarged a little too much (there's some pixelation). As girls don't usually work in the tanneries - at least I never saw one, in two years living in Morocco - I guess this is probably a bo, but it certainly is a very beautiful, even feminine, face.

jolie image, très chaleureuse grâce à ce camaïeux de roses... et cet oeil qui nous regarde...

Très joli portrait où le regard de l'enfant et les teintes qui le composent sont exceptionnelles.

If this picture was mine, I would immediately send it to a photo contest: the colors, the expression and the candid way it was taken makes a great image. Good work.
I'll send it to my favorites.

Mark, It looks like another photo from your portfolie caught my attention. It is very nice and playful picture. I am going to Morocco in 3 weeks time myself and this is nice invite. L.

When I saw the forum yesterday, I now see your own favourite here and indeed, I can imagine ! It is a great one with the nearly one-colour. The composition with the girl in the left and watching with one eye, a "speaking" portrait, Mark !
AnimeshRay (9089) 2005-03-23 14:36
Wow! What a fantastic portrait!! Something I would be proud of, taking just one shot like this. Excellent detail, perfect light, exposure and composition (though cropped). Great photo.
