Photographer’s Note

A view over Dunedin and Otago Harbour, with the Otago Peninsula leading off into the distance.

Taken towards the end of my year in NZ, this is typical of the weather I experienced throughout the winter in Dunedin, despite people warning me I was mad to spend that time of year in this part of the country!

The Otago Peninsula is home to the rare yellow-eyed penguin, and is also the only place in the world where the royal albatross nests close to human civilisation. This generates a lot of tourism for the area, along with the colonies of seals and sea lions which are common along the coast.
