Photographer’s Note
For the first two pictures of this Tall Ships' Atlantic Challenge 2009, I have of course chosen the real hero of the voyage: the Dutch ship Tecla, a former North Sea herring lugger built in 1915, and now converted into a charter boat. You will find a link to the Tecla website in the introduction of this travelogue.
Tecla was to be my home for the next 29 days, 23 of them at sea.
She is here along the pier in Tenerife, just before leaving the harbour (here and in workshop 1).
And I am also posting in workshop 2 a much better picture of the Tecla under sails, not taken by me, but curtesy of Sail Training International: the original picture is visible here.

It's good to see this long bowsprit creating a diagonal and giving dynamicity to the composition. It's also fine to see this harbour by day after having seen it by night. It's what they call: a good "ambientation" (I'm not sure whether this word exists in english).
I have followed the race at its web site but only at the beginning. First I saw Tecla was one of the first but then -probably due to lack of wind- I saw in the map she was behind the other ships... what happened afterwards?
Best regards,
Donato
