Zion Canyon

One of my favorite hikes in Zion this time of years is to East Observation Point. It takes me twice as long as the normal hiker to make the trip as I am constantly setting my tripod up for another shot. The reward, of course, is the great view of the canyon at the end of the hike.

From this view you can see another popular hike in the park- Angel's Landing. It is the point just to the right of center in the photo.

Contrast, always a problem in the canyon, is more pronounced with a winter sun. The canyon runs north to south so at this time of year you are photographing directly into the sun. This photo is a combination of three different photos taken at different apertures to help increase the dynamic range of the camera.

I had never seen views of the Zion Canyon from above like this.
Verybeautiful, of course, but also interesting and new, at least for me. The yellow trees around the river are fantatisc. A golden snake running along the canyon.

I remember I wanted to comment on this photo, bet never got around doing that. better late than never, eh?
I know exactly where you were standing, and I like a lot the way you have created this image, the road looks so tiny down below. I might have chosen not to include the light area on top, it is a little distracting, but that is not a major point. textures, colours, shapes - Zion at it's best :)
