Photographer’s Note
Poor kid. He obviously wants a water-melon but already has too much to carry.
From the town of Afyon in western Anatolia. The picture was taken in 1974 and is scanned from an Ilford FP4 negative.

Hi Gert,
Thanks to God you are dealing with your archieve and these marvellous photos reaches us.
The colour of photo is so impressive, is it because of Ilford negative?

Hej Gert,
A funny picture, looking at that boy (a grownup man today...). But a very interesting and documentary photo too. Should have been nice to see the colours too!

good morning gert,
what character these old Ilford negatives have!
the dense tones, the thick blacks... the melon seller looking at you, the boy looking at the melons, the man with his pipe trying to decide and the other one paying... lots of things to discover in this picture!

Hi Gunnar. 1974! The realistic black and white photo looks as if time stood still. But I think that melons are sold today in the same way. But perhaps these fruits are now on the shelves of supermarkets. The documentary photo pleases me very well. Best rgards, Wolfgang, - and a relaxing Sunday.

Hallo Gert!
An interesting contribution -really "from another time". The sideway converted to a shop. What an offer!
The quality of the picture - a scan - is quite good!
Greetings from a wet and grey Westphalia but with 14°C!

Nice to see the old photos...full of interest! I think you are right about the boy; he is contemplating buying, but perhaps knows better! Good work, kind regards,

Hello Gert,
You have certainly captured the unfulfilled longing on this child's face! An interesting, social document!
I like your angled shot which creates the triangle of textured cobbles in the f/g and uses the converging lines of the pavement and wall for a good lead and to give a sense of perspective.
Your use of b&w gives the shot a 'timeless' feel.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Gert,
you have turned the clock back yet I guess these scens are still there to be found even today, despite supermarkets. I can imagine the young boy looking much the same today,as he has a timeless face. There is something special about the quality of these black & white photographs that I like. You have caught the eye of the seated man and I like the pose of the man has he puffs refelctively on his pipe.
best regards,
Bev
