Photographer’s Note

The city of Kleitoria or Mazeika are situated in a fertile plain, surround by some of the highest mountains in Achaia, at the northern extremity of which Chelmos rises in conspicuous grandeur. This mountain is interspersed with sylvan scenery, where fine masses of rock peer out amid the united foliage of the pine, the plane-tree, the ilex, and the oak, its grand outline terminating in a pointed summit of great height.

From Kalavrita to Sopoto the road ascends a high pass, and descends into a cold leak country. One hour from Kalavrita the station at the top of a high pass Mauroxorti is essential , whence there is a really breathtaking view, with the valley of Katzana in the middle, to the right the mount Tartaris, and to the left the Mount Zebis.
You can see from here all the mountains that enclose the valley.
Chelmos or Aroania, Dourdouvana or Penteleion, and the mount Saitas,
All the mountains over 2000m.
The villages with the few lights are the Lefkasio or Tsorota
and the village Filia with elev. 900m.
