Photographer’s Note
After posting new pictures from the Balkans for a while, I have once again dug deep into my archives and found photos that I didn't remember existed.
This is from a café in Gaziantep, southeast Turkey, 35 years ago. Although most of the men (always men only) drink strong Turkish tea in the traditional small glasses, the framed sign on the wall shows that this is a "kahvehanesi", coffee house. And indeed the man to the right is enjoying equally strong Turkish coffee.
This is an original b&w photo, scanned from an Ilford FP4 negative.

Hello Gert, very nostalgic photo from 70s of Turkey. Actually it was taken in August 1974; and my eyes are looking for a poster of Ecevit -the then Prime Minister- on the wall since he was very popular at that time... I guess, the main agenda of those gentlemen chatting around the table was Cyprus.
Thanks for sharing and expecting the other similar photos from you -if you have- .
Best regards,
Tolga

I am always so happy every time you open the old negatives drawer - especially when you fish out the Ilford ones!! :)
what a shot - I wonder where they are now... could be they're still int he same cafe', the walls darker, the tables dirtier...
have a good day,

Hej Gert,
You must have a lot of pictures in your drawer, when you can leave this one for so long time... A very interesting picture, and a fine documentary, there is a lot of the seventies here.

Hi Gert!
This is an old and also a great one! We can understand its age through their hair, their shirts.I wonder if the place has changed much by now. A very good b&w photo. I'm glad you've been searching in your old archives!

Hello Gert,
This is really fantastic a wonderful shot from the old day. 1974, I was just a little poor boy running around in my little dusty village. I love this very casual and relax atmosphere. Black and White is the only way and best way to present this image. I can spend many days with you and look through your photos and listen to all the wonderful journey you have made. My sincere gratitude and admiration.

And it's natural without any PostProcessing, the only PP happens in our little minds. How they just sit, look at you.. a real daily life, it could not be better.

Hi Gert,
A nice one from your archives, I really get the coffe house relaxed feeling here, and these men probably came to this same little cafe everyday, and maybe some of them today still are. a great authentic shot.

Such scenes of cool life are also my favorite subjects, Gert. This one is the sister of your last post from Berat. Nice thematic collection. Reflection of your sensibility for photo subject and composition. All compliments, friend.

Incredible scene Gert! The light from outside perfectly lit the 'meeting'. From the mirror it does look like there's a window just opposite them...
Well composed, and everybody is fit in ... it really made you wonder what did they have in mind from the expression you captured. Awesome...
Another testerony activities eh? :-P
I wasn't even born when you took this picture ( not just yet, almost .. )
Thank you for sharing great, it's simply wonderful

Hi Gert,
Great shot, it is definitely exciting seen pictures from the past.
I never new (until know) about tea drinking in small glasses. I am curious to know what kind of tea did/do the Turkish people drink?
Greetings

Hej Gert,
What a superb documentary. Very vivid scene. B & W is perfect since it enhances the impression that this was taken a long time ago. I guess by now that the younger men might still sit here but now they are the older men. TFS and have a nice Sunday!

Beautiful work Gert, in capture as well as reproduction. Very nostalgic, their hair cuts suggests that it was taken in the 70s, otherwise it could have been yesterday. A lovely scene. well captured, I think the older gentleman with the hat makes it for me, his expression & glance, fantastic. Well done
