Photographer’s Note
This is Rodd Point on the Parramatta River, a tributary of Sydney Harbour. All along this Bay is a nature walk which covers about 7 kilometres of seascape, picnic areas and parks and encompasses the suburbs of Rodd Point, Drummoyne, Rozelle, Lilyfield, Haberfield, Five Dock and Russell Lea. Rodd Point is about 10 kilometres from the Sydney Central Business District and was named after the Rodd Family who owned substantial tracts of land there.

Hello Lisa,
A very attractive composition with a beautiful mood to it. The low point of view and the vertical format creates a wonderful sense of depth as we look across the bay with the little boats dotted about and thos long streaky clouds above. I like the warm tones and the feeling of serenity they engender. Did you take your own booze with you or is there a watering hole nearby ;-)

Hi Lisa,
great scenic beauty indeed. Nice to see the boats in water. The speciality of this shot I think the magical sky. The colour is just fantastic. Inclusion of the rocks in FG is fascinating. Excellent framing. Well done. Tfs.
Have a nice evening.

Hello Lisa,

I like the colours of the image.
Justifies the mood. Good details

Hi Lisa, Composition works well, but I wonder about the light and whether it may have been better waiting a few minutes for the sun to set a bit more which would have evened out the exposure a bit and maybe provided some nice pink tones on the bottom of the clouds. Also the GND has made the top part of the sky quite a bit darker, maybe a bit too unnatural looking? I do like the inclusion of the rocks in the FG. cheers, Steve

Hi Lisa,
I agree with Steve's comments, I think he makes some really good points. The thing I'd like to add is regarding the dull looking rocks in the foreground. They dominate the foreground but other than fill in the space they don't add much to the dynamics of the shot, and that's because they have no light on them. If they were in complete silhouette, different story. You've posted an excellent example of this in your "Black and Blue for Dasha" shot, but in your "Sorrento....Tornato" post we have a similar situation where the foreground rock has little or no light on it and as a consequence drags down the dynamics of the shot.
If you go to THIS SHOT by Steve Emersen (signal_womb) you can see the difference it makes by accentuating the foreground with light. I know Stephens post techniques are far beyond us mere mortals, but if you are going to continue with this type of shot, and I really think you should because you are getting very good at it, I think you need to consider how you are going to treat the foreground with future captures. A very cheap and simple way of getting "fill light" onto the foreground is a reflector. All they do is bounce light onto the subject area, a reflector can be as simple as a piece of white card, or what most pro stills cameramen use is a pop out two sided disk that has a soft side and a hard side. I've been watching film cameramen use this technique for all of my working life.
Anyway this is getting a bit long winded from yours truly, the point is, you have a very good talent for photography, and now my girl, it's time to step up a notch or two. I know you can do it.
Love Ya

Hello Lisa,
Another pretty seascape from you, this time with a sunset as a bonus! Good composition with the rocks in the fg, the sweeping shore, the boats and clouds, filling the vertical format very successfully.
Love the low light and how you coped with it. The boulders in the fg are perfectly sharp, as is the rest of the picture.
Have a nice day, Dasha

Hi Lisa,
That waterway has so many bays and points it offers new things to see for ages. This view perfectly hides city landscape although amount of boats tells that there's plenty of wealthy citizens around.
Well working wide angle sunset shot. Rocks add sense of perspective although it's hard to guess how big those nearest ones are.

A superb shot, Lisa. The dark boulders in the foreground thoroughly anchor the etherial view in the background. The title is most engaging, I'll drink to that!

Ciao Lisa,
a specific moment with the sun to try to be hidden behind the horizon, with the subdued light, and in combination with the sun to still painting pastoral colours in the clouds makes this a memorable shot. The curved shoreline creates depth in the scene and the quality of the image is just superb.
Have a nice weekend,Danos

Hello Lisa,
You have used a good visual angle in this vertical format, which allows us to admire the beauty of this place, from the rocks in foreground, passing by the bay with the boats, up to arriving to the coastal landscape, in an excellent contrast with the sky and its clouds.
The tonalities purple and the weak light create a magnificent atmosphere.
A beautiful work.
Friendly regards,
Josep

Ciao Cara Lisa, Again I arrive late when all that needs to be has been said, read most of the critiques with interest especially those from Steve (SteveH) & Peter, I also looked at Steve's (signal_ womb) image. I remember when I purchased my first SLR a Minolta, I instantly thought that with this camera I would be able to take pictures like the pros, when I didn't I was disappointed & started reading, I came across an article by Ansell Adams where he said that he spent several hours taking a shot & even days inspecting the site for the most suitable conditions, but having the image in his camera was only the beginning, hours were subsequently spent in the darkroom cropping, dodging & burning, trying different grades of paper to archive the contrast & result he was after. I realised then that taking the photo, unless conditions were perfect & you were a little lucky was only half way to producing a good quality image. Today programs like Photoshop are our modern day darkrooms, the more proficient you become at post processing the happier you will be with your own work. This is my opinion for what it's worth. I like the encouragement Peter gave you, I suppose we may not see as many blue hour shots as we have come accustomed to seeing. Well done, Keep them coming, enjoy looking at your fotos, always wondering what's next. Brava.
The pint, Guinness??
Un caro abbraccio
Santo

Hello Lisa,
your seascapes are always gorgious and this is no excepton!
I like how you framed this coast line with the rocks in fg and the long curve of the shoreline which give a fine sense of depth. But most of all I like the special atmosphere given by the very fine colours oth of the rocks and sky.

Hi Lisa,
Looks like you enjoy experimenting the GND filter which brings out a fair bit of FG details. The composition is simply superb, the way the colourful sky and water balanced with the land mass.

Hi L,
I like the dimensions of this shot.
I like the FG boulders.
I like the angle of the bay and the boats.
I like the setting sun and splashed clouds.
Who is that masked man secreted in the shot.
Cheers,
