Konferansimin kisa bir özeti, "A Love Story Lent a Helping Hand by Kemal Ataturk," burada okunulabir.
ENGLISH:
In 2002 my good friend Arnold Ludgwig, a professor of psychiatry for 30 years, published a scholarly book entitled, King of the Mountain. After having labored 18 years to create the Political Greatness Scale (PGS), a gauge to assess the effectiveness in leadership, he graded and ranked the leaders of the 20th century. (The scale is based on the traits, the lasting accomplishments, the durations of their rule, etc. of individuals whose names have come to define leaderships, including Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Abraham Lincoln etc.) Dr. Ludwig acknowledged that there have been over 2000 leaders during the century, but focused on 377 on those for whom ample information exists. Among the highest ranking are F.D. Roosevelt, the US President who served for 12 years and Mao Zedong 30 points each; Stalin 29 points; de Gaule and Deng Xiaoping tied with 27 points; Lenin 28 points; Reagan 22 points; Kennedy 13 points; Carter 12 points
First in the ranking is Kemal Ataturk, the savior and visionary leader of Turkey, with 31 points.
This evening I will be giving a major talk on behalf of the Ataturk Society of America at Georgetown University, the occasion: to commemorate the 71st Anniversary of the death of Kemal Ataturk. Here I have a personal stake. A few years before I was born, Ataturk was instrumental in the marriage of my parents. Accordingly, my talk carries the title, "A Love Story Lent a Helping Hand by Kemal Ataturk," a synopsis of which appears here.

Hello Bulent,
What an astonishingly beautiful and sentimentally appropriate entry to Trek Earth on the 68th anniversary of Ataturks death and the day of your presentation for the Ataturk Society of America. Did you happen to see this Google video of Ataturk on his death bed and his funeral march? Your photo is reflective of the same somber mood of that time. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4510962865495503438# I read your story called A Love Story Lent a Helping Hand by Kemal Atatürk included in your note. What a remarkable, sweet story it is! Thank you for sharing this history with us and warmest wishes for a splendid evening at Georgetown tonight.
Kind regards,
Betty

A really eye-catching and intriguing photo of an, yes, a bit mysterious place. The symmetry is fascinating here...
In combination with your note and the link an outstanding contribution here.

Hi Bulent, Good image with the very distinct pattern on the window decorations. The backlit effect is very strong and i'm wondering if the dark board in the lower centre is a plaque of some sort? Well cropped to give it a dramatic effect. The window decorations are similar to some in a recent documentary of Harems. Most interesting note from the hyperlink. TFS. Murray.

Merhaba, Bulent -
An interesting photo and even more interesting note - both on the historical and personal level. Now that you've piqued our curiosity, just how did Ataturk bring your parents together?
I will have to look into this PGS calculation. I'm not sure it's possible for such a scale to be totally objective, especially it results in Mao being as "great" a leader as FDR. Also the "lasting accomplishments" aspect seems to me to have time issues; at what point does it cut off? Consider, for example, Chenggis Khan; it is possible to argue that his impact is still being felt, in that some of his descendants were in power until early this century (Bukhara), some 700 years after he died, and that it was his assault on the Baghdad caliphate that fatally weakened Islam's political unity (though I would argue that there were other factors as well).
Best,
Dan

hello Bulent,
pitty that I was so far from D.C. yesterday, I would have loved to hear your lecture. and thanks for the note, something tells me I will try and find the book you mention.
repetitive patters create a fascinating image, and I agree with the previous comments that the blue cast creates a mood of contemplation and reflection.
best,
Kristine

Hi Bulent,
this is good example of a good work against the light. You made great use of the silhouettes and the window architecture. Very moody one, good idea and well executed composition!

Hello Bulent, a most interesting photo to accompany what promises to be a most interesting lecture. I was amazed to see some of the names mentioned on the list of great leaders, but not surprised to see that of Kemal Ataturk, who is well known to us Australians, particularly to us history-lovers. Nice use of the vertical frame here, I like the intricacy of the sillhouettes and the depth you have attained in such conditions. Nice work, thanks for sharing, I will now savour reading the synopsis of your talk. Warm regards, Lisa

Hello my friend Bülent,
Fine composition, very graphic and very symbolic, as the blue sky of Ankara shown by the openings of the structure. Excellent hommage to the great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Republic of Turkey.

Günaydın sevgili Bülent,
Bu kareyi görünce kendimden utandım ! Analar günübne, babalar gününe hatta Cadılar gününe uygun kareler gönderiyorum da, 10 Kasım'ı nasıl atladım diye..
Grafik etkisi mükemmel son derece mükemmel bir kare.
Ve verdiğin bilgiler de muhteşem ! Bizde "Atatürkçü" diye geçinen pek çok kişiye mesaj !
Gözüne gönlüne, yüreğine, beynine sağlık !
İyi bir hafta sonu dileği ile
Selam ve sevgiler

Good Morning Bulent,
This was not something for which I was prepared!
After spending days trying to access this site, unsuccessfully, I now find this photograph and accompanying text, which has intrigued and delighted me for quite a long time this morning. You are certainly fulfilling the aims of the site! I am just disappointed that I wasn't able to hear this lecture live! Still, the words, with my own voice, make interesting and poignant reading!
Thank you, my friend.
This has been an instructional and much enjoyed time,
Bev :-)

Hi Bulent
one more "mysterious" shot, good to post it after the one from the library...seems (almost) the same place! I like the portrait framing as well, I find it works well for this kind of subject.
Have a nice sunday!

Hello Bulent
Good choice of a vertical format, with a nice color combination of black & blue. I like the repetition of the geometric patterns & shapes. The 2 dark vertical columns are nicely positioned on or near the 1/3 axis both left & right. Tfs!
