Lighthouse of the Saint-Louis mole, Sète

The Saint-Louis mole built in 1666, protects the old fishing port of Sète, known as the "Vieux Bassin", old basin.

In 1666 Pierre-Paul Riquet, who built the Canal du Midi connecting the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean, following the will of king de France Louis XIV, creates the port of “Cette”.
The city was founded in 1673, after the beginning of the construction of the port.
The construction of the môle Saint-Louis, 750 meters length, begins on July 29th, 1666.

It is the 1st fishing port of the French Mediterranean. Fishing of sète is made of artisanal flotillas, made up by family armaments. Fishing is day laborer (left the boats 3 hours, return towards 16-18 hours), during 220-230 days of fishing per annum, for an average tonnage from 8,000 to 10,000 tons (2/3 blue fishes, 1/3 white fish).
The fleet sétoise inclued:
_ 34 general-purpose trawlers from 18 to 25 meters.
_ 17 tuna purse seiner from 25 to 45 meters.
_ about thirty small boats practitioner traditional fishing.
_ the production of oysters and moulds is mainly concentrated on banks of the pond of Thau.

One practices on Sète two types of trawling.

The basic trawl:
Trawling known as demersal which relates to white fish (plate, mullet, angler, sea-bream). After 1 to 2 hours of road, one arrives on fishing zone, one puts the trawl at water and one it leaflet with the back of the trawler during 3 hours at a speed of approximately 4 nodes. From 3 to 4 features are realized per day, for captures from 500 to 600 kg.

The pelagic trawl:
The trawling pelagic with 4 panels is more often a selective fishing carried out between 2 water close to the bottom for the capture of sardine and anchovy but also in an additional way some hakes and mackerels. The features are shorter, approximately 40 minutes per hour. On the whole, 4 to 6 operations of fishing are carried out per day. The captures vary between 3 and 6 tons per boat.

Sete is a French commune of the department of Herault and Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 43 400 Sétois and Sétoises distributed on 24 km², is 1792 hab/km².

It is the town of artists like Paul Valéry, Georges Brassens, Manitas de Plata, Jean Vilar, the brothers Di Rosa.

Georges Charles Brassens, french poet song writer and performer, was born in Sète on October 22nd, 1921, and died in Saint-Gély-of-Fesc, Herault, on October 29th, 1981.

A fine well lit composition of this lighthouse. The composition is well framed and I like the presence of the soaring seagull, which contributes much to the mood. Very good colour contrasts and excellent sharpness. Greetings from a cold and wet Charente-Maritime.

Your composition is nice here with the lighthouse being placed off center. The angled lighting is nice providing warm colors and nice sharpness. The sky is great and provides nice contrast for the red top.

Bonjour, cher Joël,
J'admire toujours autant ton "travail" dans le sens noble du terme. Tu peaufines avec maestria tes photographies, tes commentaires, tes liens, tout est cadré à la perfection.
Ici, encore, avec ce phare, qui semble se moquer de la petitesse des silos au loin est présenté avec goût.

Hello Joel,
Ah il a fière allure ce phare ! Le cadrage est très bien réalisé, j'aime vraiment cette lumière rasante qui donne un beau contraste à la scène. Et surtout cette mouette (enfin j'immagine !) qui a, à mon sens une importance dans l'image, sûr ça aurait été encore mieux si elle avait été un peu plus haut dans le cadre, mais là je fais mon difficile !
Encore bravo pour cette vue et aussi pour la note très instructive.

The rule of thirds works very well here, in this very pleasant composition. The light fall attractively onto the left side of the lighthouse and the red "top" is the real eye-catcher here!

La vue panoramique de Sete que tu as fait en octobre (ta 800eme) est toujours dans ma tete. Cette belle presentation de lighthouse m'a inspire a chercher ton texte en francais, mais dans mon cas il n'etait pas ouvrable (l'anglais n'entre pas dans mon cerveau). Puis je me rends compte que Cete t'inspire a chercher les details, ainsi ce fier sujet. Je me suis pose la question pouruoi tu gardais le format horizontale et l'exploration me mene vers l'objet vertical situe a gauche. Encore une tres belle plaque dans ton mosaique. Merci Joel,

Bonsoir Joël,
Superbe point de vue sur ce majestueux phare. La lumière est très agréable et donne de jolies teintes aux pierres du phare. J'aime beaucoup ton cadrage avec le phare légèrement décalé. La personne penché sur le mur à droite donne une bonne échelle de grandeur. La netteté est parfaite également. Juste dommage que certains éléments dans la composition cassent un peu l'harmonie (le mât à gauche, la grue à droite, les bâtiments industriels dans le fond, ...) mais je comprends bien qu'il était impossible de les exclure du cadrage ;) Note très intéressante.

Bonsoir Joël,

La prise de vue du bas vers le haut donne de la perspective à la composition. Elle permet aussi de voir les détails et les couleurs du phare. Il est bien cadré. Le ciel légèrement nuageux envoie une lumière qui valorise les couleurs. bonne soirée.

Ce beau phare domine de sa haute stature tous les autres éléments verticaux composant l'image. Bien vu, d'autant plus que son petit "chapeau" rouge lui permet de bien se distinguer!
