Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome (MACRO) is a municipal art museum located in the north-east of Rome, Italy, on Via Reggio Emilia.The project began in the late 1990s over the site old factories Peroni. After an initial phase of restructuring of the site which allowed the opening of six rooms in September 1999, the museum was officially opened October 11, 2002. Since 2003 the museum also have an annex entitled MACRO Future[1] and composed of two refurbished flats of 1000 m2 each, in the former slaughterhouse of Rome, located in the neighborhood Testaccio.Since July 2004, an extension is being built in order to present all of the permanent collection. These arrangements have been entrusted to the French architect Odile Decq.
The MACRO's permanent collection includes a selection of some of the most significant expressions of the Italian art scene since the 1960s, such as the group Forma 1 with the works by Carla Accardi, Antonio Sanfilippo, Achille Perilli, Piero Dorazio, Leoncillo and Ettore Colla; the Arte Povera with Mario Ceroli and Pino Pascali; the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo with Tano Festa, Mario Schifano, Titina Maselli and Mimmo Rotella.

The gallery collect works by such artists as Giovanni Albanese, Andrea Aquilanti, Gianni Asdrubali, Domenico Bianchi, Bruno Ceccobelli, Sarah Ciracì, Enzo Cucchi, Fabrice de Nola, Gianni Dessì, Daniele Galliano, Federico Guida, Felice Levini, Fabio Mauri, Luigi Ontani, Cristiano Pintaldi, Piero Pizzi Cannella, Gioacchino Pontrelli, Sissi, Marco Tirelli


Il Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MACRO),
è un museo comunale adibito all’arte contemporanea e situato in via Reggo Emilia a Roma. Il MACRO fa parte dei Musei in comune.
Il MACRO è stato inaugurato ufficialmente l'11 ottobre 2002 in una parte degli ex Stabilimenti Peroni presso Porta Pia.Una sede secondaria, denominata MACRO Future, è situata in due padiglioni dell'ex mattatoio, nella zona di Testaccio, vicino alla Piramide Cestia.Dal 29 luglio 2004 è in corso la costruzione di un ampliamento del museo. Il progetto è stato affidato all'architetto francese Odile Decq. La collezione del MACRO raccoglie opere di artisti italiani di fama internazionale che vanno dagli anni Sessanta ad oggi, accanto ad opere di protagonisti delle ultime generazioni.
