Photographer’s Note
to remember....
it`s gone since 20 years today
This is the view at east Berlin(former GDR) from one of many viewing platforms in west Berlin. And of course we visited east Berlin too.
in 1978,I was there with a school rowing team for the organisation "Youth trains for Olympia".All pupils from the 11 departments of former West Germany had jackets in different colors with the Logo of this organisation and crossing the border at Bahnhof(trainstation) Friedrichstrasse we had to take them off or turn around......that the logo was not visible anymore....
We have been a "coxed four" and did the fourth place.
The second highlight after visiting east Berlin was shaking hands with Jesse Owens at the award ceremony.
no big note about Berlin or the wall,
you can watch TV tonight.
THERE ARE STILL TOO MANY WALLS ON THIS PLANET!!!!!
Have a look at the camera, I owned when I was 17.
This is not a scanned one.
I still have the negatives(6x8.5 cm)but it was a spontaous idea to post this today,so I photographed the 31 years old paperprint.

ciao Leo,

Amicalement

Ciao Leo,
these images put me anguish, she remembers me when I was young and these images were seen in black and white of the wall, I am happy that the wall is fallen and that two Germans are gathered in an only nation

Hi Leo,
As photos of TE are almost all from recent years, it's just great that you have athentic old view from to remember fall of the Wall 20 years ago.
Dark gloomy sepia toning fits well with that ambience of separation.

Hi Andreas,
Superb photo to the anniversary. I remember these grey, dumb and mournful times well. Fortunately, all this that of the past. We Hungarians we are proud, that a tiny one we may have contributed to this wall collapsing.
Have a nice day!

Hallo Leo,
Very interesting historic document.
I've been there in 1990, after the fall of the Wall, but before the unification. The borders still had control and I had to pay the visa to enter Ost-Berlin and to cross DDR by car.
You may see two of my photos:
The hottest border of the Cold War, at Checkpoint Charlie. And Last days of Cold War, where the DDR soldiers guard a hole in the Wall, so that we couldn't cross there, and we had to go by the formal checkpoints (and pay the visa :-).
Greetings,
Francisco
