Photographer’s Note
This house is the old main building of Bodom manor locating close to the eastern bank of Bodom lake
in Espoo. Now it is used as a Golf club restaurant and a conference and party centre.
The present main building was built in 1793. The current appearance is from the reconstruction in 1885 and 1929-1930. Bodomin Ratsutila (Bodom Cavalry Estate) was established in ca. 1540 when three estates Bodom, Kneppens and Jork were united due to marriages and inheritances. Later on, a fourth estate, Smeds, was also incorporated. Olof Johansson can be regarded as having been the first landowner of Bodom; his ownership can be seen in the local parish register already in 1492. According to the heritage, the Bodom Manor received its name from outbuildings located in its lake shore areas. People travelled along the shores of the lake to Espoo Church and they had to travel past (in Swedish, om) the outbuildings (in Swedish, bodar).
The main building itself was constructed by Major-General Karl Johan Jägersköld in the 1790s. Finished in 1797, the manor is of late Gustavian style and its original outlook has been preserved up until our days. After several owners in the early days, the manor received its first long-term owners when the family Heimbürger acquired its ownership in 1881. The manor was their home until the year 2001, seeing and experiencing many changes as the estate was transformed from a cattle farm to an agricultural farm and a market garden and finally to a golf course. Gunnar Heimbürger decided to establish a golf course on his lands in order to be able to utilise the land areas after having given up agriculture. In the 1980s, Master Golf Course purchased the first pieces of land from and the circle was closed when the manor as a whole was transferred under the ownership of Master Golf Course.
In WS is a view from a hill over the golf course and the lake on the background.

Hei Lasse,
A very good example of an old manor, giving idea of prosperous estates of Southern Finland.
Excellent weather, good dynamic angle. Circular driveway is an interesting detail.

This is truly the essence of a manor house: tranquil and elegant, understated but exceptional. Can you imagine the light corrsing the interior space? It must be as lovely inside as it is outside. Great photo, point of view, color, and management of light and shade. Just a feast for the eye. I feel as if I am there. Thanks, Judy

Hello Lasse,
I was admiring this picture of yours yesterday night but I was too tired to leave a comment...
I think this photo is a good example of what I told you in my recent private email discussing styles and skills in photograpy: i.e. in my view it's a perfect composition with excellent technical qualities. The image is very neat and clean, no kind of disturbing objects, and perfectly balanced: the house at the right and the trees at the left, and the flag pole perfectly at the center! The curve of the path gives a fine depth and the sky is perfectly natural! (no polarizer allowed! (:-). Very, very good. The more I look at it the more I like it!
Thanks for sharing

Hallo Lasse!
So at last you show us your house ... ;-) A wonderful manor - and you show it in a very favourable light and in a skillful composition. A place really to feel good. I also like the ws photo with its amnazing depth very much.
Greetings from - no, I do not like to describe this desaster - Siegen!

Hej Lasse,
A very fine view of this beautiful and well kept stately building, nicely framed by trees. The round lawn, bordered by the "road", creates a nice pattern in the foreground.
And what a beautiful day this was!
