Silence, calmness, harmony

Again in Hungary on a beautiful place. I was many times at this lake in my youth. I hope, you like this mood.

Diósjenő

This is the perfect place for a quiet, restful vacation thanks to an open-air swimming pool and an angling lake. Among the visual attractions is the row of 19th-century wine cellars, the bridges over the Jenői Stream that flows through the town, and the Secession-style Swabian Mansion built during the 1900's.

Before the Hungarian Settlement of the region Avar, Quadis, and later Slavic peoples inhabited the area. At one time, the hilltops surrounding Diósjenő had castles on them built in different periods e.g. Pagan Castle (Pogányvár), Czech Castle (Csehvár), Kámorvár.

According to Roman historians, it was right here at the Diósjenő lake that the legions of the 'philosopher' emperor Marcus Aurelius clashed with the barbarians threatening Pannonia.

The name of the town refers to an encampment of the Jenő tribe at the time of the Hungarian Settlement. Inhabited during the Middle Ages it became a flourishing market town. During the Turkish invasion it became depopulated, later to become repopulated once again. Residents of Diósjenő are proud of the fact that Ádám Mányoki, court painter to Ferenc Rákóczi II, often visited his father here, who was an erudite preacher.
How to get there:
By train take the Vác-Balassagyarmat or the Romhány-Diósjenő line. By car take Route 2 coming from Berkenye and passing through Nógrád. (Source: Vendégváró)
